A friend of mine says his truck wont shift into overdrive. His is an automatic. He has had the tourch converter, the tranny has been rebuilt,brand new cylinoids,and a new valve body has been installed. Please help! Thank you.

Some common things I have reads about the overdrive issues is
1. throttle position sensor- it can go bad, wont allow it to go into overdrive
2. Check for a bad trans oil temp sensor- it wont shift into overdrive until it reaches a certain temp. If there is a faulty sensor, it wont tell your computer its warmed up
3. Check ALL wires going to the tranny...since its been out and built, they could have accidentally frayed or pinched a wire.

How can you test the throttle body sensor? You know where it is?

I found this...
TPS testing and adjustment
The TPS is the only thing on the side of your injection pump that has wires going to it.
And not a problem...hope this helps

Thanks Braydon. His truck is at the shop and the guy that rebuilt the tranny is trying to fix the problem. My friend took his truck to a Dodge dealer after the tranny was rebuilt. The dealer told him the torque converter was bad which was changed. The guy has sence put a new torque converter on it. it still wont go into Overdrive. Sometimes it wont shift at all. This is where he is now. He is going to tell the guy at the shop to try the things you have told me to try if he hasn't already done these things.

Maybe since the tranny was just rebuilt the sensor plug isn't plugged in all the way or is messed up. I recently put a resistor on my sensor and I didn't end up plugging it all the way in and my truck wouldn't go into overdrive. I ended up pushing it in more and it fixed it.
