After waxing last week I am now really noticing where I got sloppy and got wax on various plastic trim pieces(bed rail caps, door handles, bumper step pads). What is the best way to get the wax off of these textured plastic pieces?

Honestly, I find using my trim dressing works well... Preferably the gel type. Some people say, distilled vinegar diluted, dawn dish detergent diluted(only use to strip wax!!! never to wash!), smooth peanut butter (weird), etc. I use the Chemical Guys Tire and Trim gel.

I would tape off the paint, and then use a stiff tooth brush and an all purpose cleaner (Simple Green) etc.

The tape is just to avoid the potential for scratches.

Like attracts like, simple chemistry and that is why all of these things with oil work with things that contain oil.

I would use Goo Gone, very effective in many different forms like professional grade as well. This is my Go To, rarely if ever let me down. Even melted silicone caulking away! Although that did take some work as well.

Degreasers, even 409 might work, simple green.

Acetone or alcohol will also work.

Use a different wax, cheaper waxes with fillers cause this problem, better yet go with a sealant and never worry about it. Zaino, Duragloss, Klasse, all better then wax and don't attract dust either.

The best way to remove wax on plastic is simple. Just use a pink eraser. It works fast and is way better than using other chemicals. Try it once and you will see. Do it just like you would to remove a pencil mark on paper.

Either pink eraser, or Mr. Clean magic eraser.
I like to use back to black afterwards, but putting it over a white stain just just that; highlights the white stain you can still see.

Thanks guys I'll give these a try this weekend when I get up to the old homestead. I think I have some Back to Black floating around my parents garage from my Trailblazer days since that thing was 50% gray plastic.

Just as a note the other 50% of my Trailblazer was glass and rice paper, damn thing was always broke. The only trail it blazed was back to my mechanic.

How I minimize getting wax on plastic trim is by treating it first. By treating it first the wax comes right off the trim when I get sloppy. This has worked when waxing my old Sierra with plastic door handle, side mirrors, bumper pad and tailgate handle.
