I have a few scratches that people say (oh ****, that'll buff out). Well that doesn't mean a damn thing if you don't own or know how to buff.

Any pointers or links?

I have a possessional buffer and pads and if you don't know what you are doing you will mess it up. Its not just about buffing to get the scratches out you also have to wet sand to get the fine scratches out and then you buff it. This is the buffer i have

At the body shop I work at we charge $500 for a complete wet sand and buff and the paint will look better than new after we finish.

First thing to do is prevent more scratches. Make sure you are washing the truck with the proper techniques. Use a 2 bucket wash setup with Grit Guards. Use quality soap (pH 7) and dry the truck with a leaf blower or Blaster Sidekick by Metrovac. Anytime you contact the paint, you are taking the risk of adding more swirls. Use a waffled microfiber towel to remove any final drips.

Once you've washed the car properly, you will most likely need to claybar the paint. Use the baggie technique to determine if clay is necessary. Put your hand in a plastic bag, the thinner the better, and rub your hand across the paint. If the paint is not entirely smooth, you need to clay.

After clay, you will need to polish the swirls and scratches. I recommend the Porter Cable 7424XP. It is a very easy to use tool. Anyone can use it!

I recommend the Adam's line of polishes as they are really easy to use, they car color-coded to the pad, and deliver excellent results!

There are a bunch of kits Adam put together. I can add some FREE stuff to the kits for Ram Forum members.
