I wash mine with a mitt while I wash my truck and lightly hose it off and use and air gun and blast off any electronics I see that may have gotten soaked.

I've always been afraid to use a hose in the engine bay because I think I might damage electronics. It sounds like many, if not all, f you domso with no problems. In the video (thank you AdamPolishes for posting) he uses a hose. Do any of you disconnect the battery while doing this? Is it necessary to blow it dry even?

When I do this, I cover any sort of exposed electronics or connections with walmart bags and what not. I'll clean those by hand. I don't use high pressure with water either. Just an easy stream and not directly spraying things such as connections or terminals.

Over the years I have power washed the heck out of at least 20 engine bays with and without degreaser. One got water under the distributor cap and I had to dry it off, and on a focus it got water down in the holes where the plug wires go and I blew it out with an air hose and let it sit with the hood open for a day. That being said, I would not be afraid to spray one with a water hose. Here in Michigan it can be very damp and sloppy from snow and rain and I think the components under the hood are designed to handle a little moisture anyway. For a little shine I spray the thing down with no touch tire care and wipe off excess, nothing silicone based because that attracts and captures dust and dirt.

Best thing I've found is to use a degreaser and spray it down. I'd stay away from the rubber/plastic dressing products as they just attract dust/dirt. Worst thing I found was an "engine shine" spray which is almost like a clear coat. Eventually it just starts pealing off in spots and looks horrible.

If you wipe it down after each wash job you won't ever have to worry about using a degreaser or a pressure washer.

I keep mine pretty clean, so a good spray of tire shine, and a quick rinse makes it look better than new.
