It's hard to hear.
Have you pulled the intake off the turbo to make sure the blades aren't touching the housing?

No,not yet... it's loudest on the psgr side just forward of the door. there's hardly any wierd noise in the engine bay from above. The noise is only at idle, any throttle and it goes away.

We dug into it deeper... turbo is fine. there is something impacting the oilpan... in taking an extra day off work to get it checked before heading back. I'm suspecting we'll need to drop the oilpan to find the culprit. any ideas what could make the noise? Its in sync with the rpm, it goes away consistently at 1000 rpm.

Doesn't sound good at all... why is it idling so high in the first place? You should be right around 750rpms. I assume you are not throwing any codes/CEL?

Do you have gauges? What is your EGT at idle?

The only thing that I could think of that would be hitting the oil pan is the oil pickup valve, unless something broke free and dropped into the pan. Do you have any blowby? While the truck is running, pull off the oil cap... how much pressure is coming out? You can also drain your oil into an open oil pan, or just remove/replace the filter, and see if there are any metal particles in it.

To drop the pans in these trucks is a PITA... you will need to have an engine hoist in hand and raise the engine about 5 inches so that you can get the pan around the crossmember when you drop it. Shoot me a PM if you need any help, there are a couple good write ups on dropping the pan on CF that I can send you the links for if you need them.

No codes, that'd be a great indicator to point me in a particular direction. Idle is at 750... not sure what you're hearing. No guages. :( Didn't check for blowby before the towtruck took it.

I just saw you were running around 1200rpm in the second video.

So where are you going from here? Having a shop tear it down? You tearing it down? Etc?

If you were actually missing, I think you would throw a code. I get the feeling it is more than that...

So I did... derp.. I took it in to the dealer. They found 4 bolts sheered off the flexplate. They are gonna pull the transmission tomorrow and fix it up. Not sure what would cause this.... engine was out 8 months ago, no other symptoms.

That'd do it lol... That is odd. Do you have a billet flexplate? If not, now may be the time to upgrade

Question for you gurus, to replace the rear-main seal, you would need to separate the engine from the transmission right? When I had the truck at a relative's, we noted that he inspection port on the bottom of the transmission was loose.. I'm wondering if someone didn't torque the bolts when the parts were put back together.

Correct, the transmission needs to be dropped for access.

You can technically run with no inspection port without issues. It just keeps dirt and grime out of there. Tighten her back up and go!

Thanks for the info Scott.. I'm still piecing together what happened..

If the engine was removed, upon replacement, those bolts wouldn't need to be replaced would they? Apparently in the manual there's no call for locktite but if you order the new flexplate with the bolts they come with blue locktite on them. I'm wondering what the standard expectation is, I'm suspecting they put it back together by the specification in the service manual but did not account for replacement locktite. That would certainly account for all the reports of this happening when you google it. I (being a non-mechanic type) would think if you are putting bolts in to a spinning part, with no other retainer (lock washer, etc) you'd put locktite on the bolt to prevent this from happening.

For the inspection plate? You don't technically have to have it at all, but it keeps things clean.

As for the locktite.. I would definitely think so. I can't honestly say I have done this job myself, so I do not know what the norm would be, but if the new part comes with locktite, I would think that it should be used.
