I helped my buddy install an S&B intake on his '13 2500 Friday after work
Because of the new-for-'13 Ram Air Active intake this was the most involved intake installation I've ever done
The new trucks have a shutter sytem that allows the intake to pull air from the grille or the fender depending on travels speeds and weather conditions
The stock airboc has a motor mounted to the side and butterfly valves connected by a linkage that opens the grille opening or fender opening. The new S&B air box uses a swing gate mounted to the factory motor on the bottom of the air box that opens and closes one or the other. This also allows you to remove the swing gate easily and leave both open at the same time
You can see in the picture below that the swing gate doesn't seal the openings but more or less blocks the elements from getting to the filter
Overall construction of the box is really nice from S&B, I would say nicer then the factory air box. Installation took around 2 hours with three guys (estimated installation is 3 hours per the instructions)
I had to head home before he actually got the filter in the airboc but I'll get final pictures from my buddy. He called me on his way home and said there was a lot more turbo noise which is what he wanted. I'll update if it seems to affect fuel efficiency at all
