Hello everyone
A newbie to the site. I have an '08 6.7. A few months ago I started it and the turbo whistled loudly, it smoked quite a bit, the engine idle loped up and down, and the truck had almost no power at all. When I'd step on the foot feed it made almost no difference (wouldn't build rpm). I shut it off, started it back up and all was normal again. Since then it's happened 3 or 4 more times and always went back to normal after shutting off and restarting. Well today that changed. Now it won't go back to normal. I've had it towed to a shop. I'm wondering what I'm looking at. Don't want to get taken to the cleaners by the repair shop. Thanks in advance for any input.

Sounds like the turbo vanes are sooted up. Can usually be cleaned to clear it up the first time but it will only come back. Plan on a turbo replacement soon.

Oh, and by the way, it was a bad waste gate.
