I was researching super chargers for my truck. Has anyone added a S/C to a 2013 Power Wagon? I've heard of a lot of issues with prior year transmission failures when you up the power. The 2013 has the 66RFE transmission which is an upgrade to the prior years, but with the setup I'm considering the truck will be pushing 540hp and probably more torque. Also, will an inter cooler fit with the winch? Any input?

Thanks!

Have you found any information on supercharging? I've been thinking about supercharging mine too.

All I've found out so far is that Procharger makes a centrifugal S/C for 2013 Hemi Rams that adds 130-150 hp. It's not California smog certified legal yet, that kicks it out for me at this time. As for the transmission the 2013 uses a 66RFE which uses the innards from a 68RFE used in the Cummins 2500's. The 66RFE uses the heavy duty parts, but it is in the old style case. I was looking for torque duty charts, but Ram doesn't publish that. Trucks with the prior to 2011 transmissions have said that S/C's tear them up quickly. I am ready to pull the trigger but it needs to be smog legal and I'd like to keep the transmission intact if possible. Let me know if you find out anything else.

check out the superchargers by Ripp RIPP Superchargers

they've been going all out on the Jeep SRT's, rams and wranglers - Give them a call to see what they have for the 2012+ rams

You're right, they have been going all out on the Rams, people are pulling them because of toasting transmissions and even one block because you can't adjust their tuning due to them locking the tunes.

The automatic in the '13+ 2500s is better than the 1500 variant, but it's still unfortunately a Dodge automatic.

You won't be running a S/C long on it without it wearing out. I was just reading a tech article in Diesel Power about a 1,000 HP capable 68RFE. I was drooling.

I'm aware that the 66rfe is a better trans but that doesn't change the fact that RIPP has been nothing but a headache for the owners in the Ram community with their poor tuning, lack of support, and the worst being the locked tunes. That's if they even support the 66rfe in the 2500.

1000hp diesel would need to handle 2000ft-lb, I'll take one! If only we could get our computers to accept a standalone trans controller and then run one independently. I like manuals but in this day and age you can't beat the shift speed and drivability of the automatics.

I'd personally prefer the roots style blower over a centrifugal blower.
I think in a big lumbering truck like a PowerWagon (any Hemi 2500 really) it'd be more fitting.

Agreed, The lower torque rpm would definitely be a good thing on the heavier trucks if you can get the trans to hold it, not a lot done on the 66 yet so it'b be a lot of trial and error.

I think the edelbrock will work on these engines now so that might be one to look at.

Here's the break down on the 66RFE. It uses the rear portion of the 68 ie L/R, 2c/4c clutch packs, planetary's and output shaft. The front half is still 545 ie UD, OD, R clutch packs and input shaft. So basically its a 1/2 & 1/2.

Overall, do you think it would hold the extra 100hp? Or, do I budget for a new trans too?

Depends. I know that the 68 runs 30 psi more line pressure than the 545 even though they share the same line pressure solenoid, so if the line pressure programming on the 66 is the same as the 68 well then, maybe yes.

Would the 68 bolt up to a 5.7 Hemi? Maybe that's the best way to go rather then building my current trans? The truck really needs the extra power.

Even if it'd bolt up, the issue is getting the darned computer to accept it as it's own and feed it.

Man, I just want my horsepower! Maybe, I should just accept this heavy truck isn't going to haul ass without breaking parts, or a ton of modifications. I think I'll keep the truck and save my pennies and buy a Challenger Hellcat :happy3:
