I'm looking to jump to a 2500 for the increased towing and payload capacity. I really like the Power Wagon, A LOT!!! But, when I do this, I want to make sure I don't come up short int eh future. I know the PW lacks some towing capacity/payload vs. the regular 2500s so I was curious about real world experiences.

as much as I like my PW, I wish I would have just gotten a 2500 for the extra payload and towing, I do like the 4.10's over the 3.73's

So here is a real world PW towing....I tow a 8800# 37' Outback travel trailer using a weight distribution anti sway hitch with with no issue. I have Ride Rite air bags installed and usually air them up to 10 psi and can run this rig easy 70-75 mph down the road. My PW and TT have 2 trips from Tyler TX to Greensboro GA (1500 miles rt). 7.2 mpg avg but I like you love the PW. What a truck.

They say the PW and 2500 frames are the same but PW has lighter linear springs but I have no problem towing. I would recommend the air bags but other than that.....let r rip!:grd:

if your towing backhoes and stuff like that you definatly don't want the pw. anything around 10k or under it shouldn't have much problem with. or like the other guy said just put on some air bags

Yea, the PW isn't going to tow over 10K, but I've been towing my Airstream, full-time from place to place for a year with the Power Wagon, and it's been great. Best of both worlds.

Stop driving at 75mph, because I'm on 35's and getting 12mpg pulling 6890lbs of Airstream. I don't tow over 65 though.

Just get the weight rating specs on your truck, weigh the truck with you, any passengers, a full tank of fuel and the gear you'd haul in the bed, and write that down.

Then you get to do some trailer math! If you want an easy way to determine what you can tow PM me your email address and I'll send you a towing calculator. You'll need to know what your truck weighs as stated above.

Stop towing at 75mph period. I see way to many incidents with people towing to fast on the freeways.

Totally stock 2013 - other than the tires / wheels in this photo (I have since gone back to stockers for Load Rating when towing the Large Toy Hauler trailer loaded).

Does great! Due to the softer initial suspension travel, you will want to adjust your headlamps downward to avoid irritating oncoming traffic - especially on dark 2 lane roads. Any weight in the bed or on the hitch gets those lights (especially those with the projector beam option) up in everyone's eyes.

Masterchifebt question for you,
How are your air bags doing? Any update would be great. Did you need to install 2" spaces when you did the install? Have you done any off-roading since installing the bags?

Thanks

I had the airbags installed at a local truck accessory shop. They did a great job. There doesn't appear to be any spacers installed. I don't do a lot off "off roading" per say but when I have went off the beaten path they have held up just fine. When towing they may be a little over kill for our Power Wagons but they do keep it more stable on the road it seems so that makes it worth it too me. No more white knuckles when semi's pass me anymore.:peace:

How the hell, I'm getting 12.7-13 HWY on cruise control, no hills, not towing anything, 11 in the city...

I was wondering about the airlift 1000 type helper bags that install inside the coil spring, I think you can blow regular air bags out if you start articulating too much correct me if I'm wrong. Anyone use these types of bags that go inside the spring?? I know our powertrain is good for towing 15k, we just have to figure out a way to help the suspension...also what about weight transfer, like for a boat for example, you can move a boat forward and back a couple of feet on the trailer, plus if you had a trailer that's 3 axles helps too. If you can get the trailer and truck even without having the truck sag, and E load range tires, then technically we can tow 15k no?

I get between mid 16 and mid 18 on the highway. Just depends how hard I'm running. And that's here VA running up and down the hills. During the week back and forth to work, I'll average 14 -16. This is all according to the truck.

That's your driving bro. :naughty:

Yep. My EVIC is between 17-17.8 mixed interstate city. I know it's not accurate but it sure ain't 11-12.

This past holiday weekend towing my TT with a gross weight of 14340, I was averaging 7-8 MPGs going from 3,000 ft to 8,000.

Are you 6.4 guys really getting that good of mileage?

Been doing more heavy towing lately, and I average 7 mpg, and only get 13 or so cruising around completely empty.

But, I tow in Triple Digit temps, and always seemingly into a strong headwind, and up hill regardless of which direction or where I am going.

Here, on my last Three State - Lake Hopping road trip towing pretty much right at the max, with 10k lbs on the rear hitch.

With the right trailer, loaded properly, I have never had a need for Air Bags. My 30' Toy Hauler utilizes a load distributing hitch, but this beastly boat has no 'aids' at all. Just a properly 'balanced' load.
