Hey all, so i installed the cabin air filter mod about 2 weeks ago and so far no issue. while installing the piece i noticed that above the slot where the filter goes there is the white plastic conduit that looks as though it is not connected properly. has anyone actually moved this piece down to see what happens?

the one thing that i did notice was air still blows out the vents even with the heater/air con off completely. the only way to shut it off is for me to turn the air on then back off and it stays off.

My 2011 looked the same way when I did my filter a few weeks ago...Was wondering the same thing...If the position was correct. Thought it would all be sealed up.

That's the duct that switches between fresh outside air and recirculated cabin air

Are you saying that when i push the left button (the knob that controls the speed of the fan) the one that switches between outside air and inside air, that conduit that is circled in the picture actually opens and closes?

Yeah, that's right.

Yuppers. It'll also move on max ac.

As pictured it's in recirculate mode ( drawing in cabin air ) it goes to that position shortly after the truck is shut off. ( at least on my 16 sport it does ). Don't believe me, start your truck then shut it off. Wait a few minutes and you'll hear all the actuators closing.

If it doesn't move on its own anymore then... yes

I just ignorantly pulled down on it thinking it should be sealed. How easy of a fix would this be?

In case anybody else did the same thing, I took both glove boxes out and found that I had broken the plastic part that connected to the actuator. I put a hose clamp on it and haven't had any problems since.

Thanks for the heads up! Maybe it will keep me from playing with it by not knowing what it was.

After looking online it appears that some trucks have them and some don`t. I see they sell a kit to add one. Now I have to take a look to see if my truck has one.

Yeah, check it out first before you go buying parts. My 17 express had no listing for a cabin air filter or a replacement filter but yet it has one. Took the old one out and cross referenced the Mopar part number to a Purolator filter.

Man, my 07 Dodge Caliber has a cabin air filter, why would they not add this as default pre 2017, lol. Looks like I will be cutting a whole and adding one myself.
