A couple of members asked me to do a write up about the led cup holders I installed the other day. I've never done a write up before, so here goes nothing. I got these disks from accentglowled.com they come in various colors, and disk sizes.
Remove the cup holder bezel, simply grab a corner and pull up, it snaps off eaisly, and I removed the lid for more room to work ( 4 small screws )
First thing I did was remove the rubber cup holders and drill a small hole, just off center and towards the rear of the cup holders and run the disk wires through them. The disks sit flat, and are held to the cup holders with double sided tape. 1st pic. Reinsert the cup holders
I then tied all 3 positive and negative wires of the disks together, using a shrink wrap butt splice, and a cap screw (all I had on hand, and will replace the cap screw with a butt splice when I get a chance to pic some up) pic 2
Ok need tap into power to run them...
Plan A was to wire them to the headlight switch, but I wasn't sure exactly what wires to tap into, didn't want to mess anything up, so thought better of it. I will wait on someone much smarter than me to do that.
Plan B was to get power from the 12V outlet at the counsel. I didn't know how to disassemble the counsel to gain access to the wires. I watched a video, and you needed to take apart the entire apolistry to get the foam out of the way, but the video didn't show what the wire set up was, or if there was access to it. Seemed like to much work for a maybe, so passed on that. So I figured I could cut a access opening on top of and just in front of the 12V outlet. I cut the opening with a dremel, only to find a metal bar under that blocked access to the 12V outlet *smh* .
So onto Plan C... get power from under the drivers seat...success! There are 3 harnesses under the drivers seat, the one that controls the 12V is the one with only 2 wires coming out of the back, the wires were black and purple. Simply push down and wiggle the harness til it frees from the the bracket it's attached to, for easier access. I don't have power or heated seats, I'm sure that's the harness used if you did, so I would take note of where the black and purple wires are if you do have them. Pic 3
I had a few feet of red and black 12G wire sitting around, and found a couple of butt spices in my tool box ...I'm sure the easy way to go would be to use some quick splices, but I didn't have any on hand. So I peeled back the tape, cut the wires and used the butt splices and connected them to the 12G wires. Pic 4
