This is a DIY aimed at the lower trim level guys who don't have the option of adding the LER sales code for the OEM folding. I did mine on a set of 1A Auto tow mirrors so the codes I had my dealer flash were LEG, LEC, and LEB. This makes the turn signals, puddle lamps, and mirror buttons work correctly when the mirror is flipped up in tow mode.

First, I gained access to each mirrors fold wiring (blue and yellow wires in the black connector) by removing the door panels.

In order to run my wiring to the mirrors, I needed to gain access to the cab pass through harness. This is held to the door by 2 T20 torx screws and a plastic connector holder thingy(not sure what it's called) on the body of the truck.

Now on the drivers side there are two connectors installed in the plastic retainer where as on the passenger side there is only one. I slid the wiring through one of the holes between the 2 connectors on the drivers side and then in the huge empty slot on the passenger side

Now for my install I am using the factory sliding rear window switch in the overhead to operate my mirrors since I do not have a sliding rear window. You can alternatively just use a DPDT switch instead.

With that in mind I proceeded to route my wiring up the A pillar to the overhead

After that I routed my ground wire underneath the steering column to the factory ground point.

Next up, power. I ran my fused link wire to the accessory post under the hood by drilling a small hole through the firewall grommet

Next I wired up my over head switch with QD terminals and one T-tap(this was used for the switch illumination by tapping into the console light that comes on when the lights are on) black wire is ground, pink/or is power, brown is illumination, and the remaining two brown/striped wires are for the motor - and + signals(the yellow and blue wires you tapped at the mirror plugs)

Once everything was connected I did 2 fold cycle and patted myself on the back. Lol. Hope this helps and inspires others to tackle this project. I used trailer wire as it comes bonded and is easier to run in a pair instead of individual wires. Special thanks to Ricks Ram and maizenblue forum members who also tacked this and gave some great pointers [emoji106]

I added the home link as well.... it's nice to have. I hated taking my opener back and forth from my work truck and my Ram..... was just a matter of time before I lost it/broke it/forgot it.

I'm liking this more and more. I'm just starting to get informed on this so here's a few questions if you don't mind, how and where do you get the correct part number folding mirrors? Also, where can you get the home link switches for the overhead console? If the truck came with folding mirrors where would the switch be?

The write up you did is awesome. I've read it about three times now...

Thanks a lot glad you liked it and hope it helps .
So to answer your questions:
1) I got my mirrors used off another forum member but if you look up the mirrors on 1A Auto to get the same ones or search EBay Craigslist Etc. Here is the ones I have installed https://m.1aauto.com/2013-16-ram-mirror-pair/i/1amrp01753?f=1052714&y=2014
I went with tow mirrors because I needed the added visibility. This mod will work the exact same for non towing style small power folding mirrors as well

2) same story on the homelink switches. I got a panel off the forum classifieds that had the rear sliding glass switch and homelink buttons on it. These can be found pretty easily and cheap on eBay, Craigslist, etc

3) if your truck came equipped with the mirrors from the factory the switch would be interested into the drivers side window/door lock switch assembly where your mirror adjust buttons are currently located.

Hope that helps and good luck. It's pretty easy to do, hardest part was getting that silly plastic connector holder thingy to pop out of the body. Everything else is just taking your time and routing the wires neat and clean. I chose to run my power source directly to the accessory post on the fuse block with a fuse inline so I could operate the mirrors even if the key was not in. You can alternatively run them with a T-tap connection under the dash to a keyed hot wire and not have to run anything under the hood. I didn't do this because I already had my seat heaters wires in that way and didn't want to clutter it up with anything else.

Like 12mcsport said ... keep a eye out on ebay and carpart.com for them... you need a 13+ mirriors with the power fold option. I got the home link and I added mirrors from a Sport both from ebay (got a steal on the mirrors).

If you have a power rear sliding window, or thinking of adding one RicksRam also has a DIY written up for this mod, not using the Home Link counsel. I didn't have any real intention of adding the rear window to my mods, thought about it for a hot second but figured it wasn't worth the cost. So when getting ready to do the mirrior mod... good ol' Rick sends me a ebay link for a ridiculous price on the rear window....and I do mean so ridiculous we both thought it couldn't be true.... so long story short I now have power fold mirrors. ..and the power sliding rear window *smh*

How exactly is the sliding window switch wired up? This is a really good idea. We need wire to pin placement please. :Big Laugh:

If you are able to source the connector with a little bit of harness left from a donor overhead harness (this is what I did) you are going to splice it in as shown in this pic:
bbb447efe5f00cf2aef8f4fc47ca7ff1.jpg

If you are fabricating your own harness and using quick connects onto the terminals you would wire it like this sweet picture I drew lol:

And if you are going to use a DPDT switch use this diagram:

Sounds like you have an upper trim model. You should be able to have the sales code flashed to yours and add the OEM switch and modules for yours to work if that is the case. Alternatively you can do it this way to save $$$[emoji106]

I recommend anyone considering trying to install the factory power folding mirrors that is going to use the factory switch and modules go to the dealer first and see if they are able to add the LER sales code before you spend the money on the switch and modules. I many cases they cannot add the code. OBD Genie is currently working on a Genie to add the code but until they do most people are stuck hard wiring them in like myself and others have done or just waiting for the cide to be figured out.

What modules would you need?

Are you asking which ones you need to do it the OEM route or to do it as described in the DIY? Also agree with Rick on this one, definitely better to triple check with your local dealer to see if they can even add this to your truck sales codes before purchasing the modules and switch

If I buy the modules, worse case I hard wire them. I'd rather keep the functionality of the factory switch, I like the stock look and function. Does anyone have a part number for the mods?

Read through the above thread if you are wanting to go the OEM route [emoji106]. Not sure what you mean by "hardwiring" the stock switch but it is integrated into the master plug for the mirror controls, would probably way more trouble than it's worth going that route. With the way I did it all the functions still work on my mirror switch if that was a concern you had, might just be misreading your post

So do you have to hold the switch until the mirrors reach their final point or can you just press it once and watch them go?
Do they have a pre-set detent they stop at?
Have you ever had a problem of one mirror moving faster than the other and over-running the desired position?

I only ask as I'm about to pull the trigger on a set of these from 1AAuto and know with my '13 I'll be manually wiring the fold option. If I need to wire them to separate switches I can order them all at once. Thanks.
