How to 1.5" Steel TGC rear coil spring spacer install

This is just another spacer install , similar to others , I have a couple pointers that I hope will help someone here .

I purchased these Spacers used from a member here a while back , his forum name is Sausec17 , he was from Ga. and a good seller for me .

My Truck 2014 Ram 1500 4x4 QC with Bilstien 5100s set @ +2.8" .

I installed the bils about 25,000 miles ago , I love these shocks , but I'm sitting a touch nose high , I've been saying for 2 yrs I'd be installing rear coil spacers well I finally have LOL !

My before measurements :

L/F & R/F = 39.0 "
L/R =38 3/4"
R/R =38 1/2"

After pic

And now even loaded with approximately 500 - 600 lbs in the bed I'm still basically level .

This is while hooked up to a trailer with 4,500lbs of rock / 7,800 lb total weight .
Not sure of the tongue weight ,probably 450+ lbs

I ended up with exactly 1 5/8 " increase in hight on both the left & right side with 1.5" spacers hmm ?

My post spacer install measurements :

L/F & R/F stayed @ 39"
L/R =40 1/4"
R/R =40 1/8"

Very happy with the look now and still drives the same .

This install is a 1 hr job , took me about 2 hrs ... I was taking notes for this post , taking photos and I rotated my tires as well .
I rate the dificulty at a 2 out of 10 , very simple task imo.

Tools I used for this install :
21mm or 13/16 socket and wrench
18mm socket & wrench
13mm socket
Floor Jack & Jack stands

6033402368f192e7e61bb8278aa00230.jpg

This is how I did it .

Step 1) chalk the front tires

Step 2) break tq. on rear wheels

Step 3) jack up the rear end @ the rear differential , remove tires and install jackstands on the Frame ( the higher the better . Higher means the rear end can drop further for the coil spring reinstall ( remember they will be taller with the spacers )

d74be858e9c1c3f9ba58a80c52c0df6c.jpg

Step 4) Disconnect the lower shock mounts both sides , 21mm socket & wrench or 13/16 works fine .
I kept my stock shocks , the upper bolt to the shock is more difficult to get to and there was nothing wrong with my stock shocks .

Step 5) Disconnect the upper anti-sway links , both sides . 18mm socket & wrench .

a3f44cb92c7ba1cc15a3363b8c030b94.jpg

Step 6 )To aid in the smooth drop of the rear end I (loosened only) both ends of the lateral brace . 21mm

49fcdb81df9587b891a6ac266762ee7b.jpg

Step 7) I removed the 13mm bolt holding the brake line to the frame , just for a bit more room for dropping the rear end.

186d15d14e26a1511a9caa290ca28c4b.jpg

Step 8) Prior to completely lowering the rear end (so the coils don't fall out like some say )

I recommend identifying them R/S & L/S , I also marked for orientation .
My L/S coil was about 3/8" taller than the R/S . The left coil on my truck is p/n 05154648 , the right is p/n 05154647 .

98c15960e8a8d2f71901665502880040.jpg

I've read some get the coils mixed up and end up with the R/S 1" to 1.5" higher than the left side . The p/n s are diff on my truck ....I believe this is due to the added weight on the L/S ie... gas tank & battery and always having a driver . This is about 300 -450 lbs extra wt on the left side of the truck all the time , depending on fuel load and the wt of the driver .

Step 9 ) Now remove the coils by hand , you may have to give them a firm shake as I did or smack em with a mallet , some just fall out , my right one was pretty loose once I completely lowered the rear end .

Step 10) remove the factory rubber anti-chafe topper from the coil spring and install it on the large diameter end of the spacer , place the spacer on the top of the coil spring and reinstall the coil spring and spacer ( as a single assembly ) on the correct side , just stab the smaller diameter end of the spacer into the hole above the mounting location of the coil and pop the smaller lower end of the coil assy over the hump that retained the bottom of the coil originally.

1b27af878fe9f1731a1b39d5b5fa7267.jpg

Step 11 ) slowly jack up the rear end about 1/2 way , now reconnect the lower shock mount , upper anti-sway , brake line retainer and retighten the lateral brace .

Step 12) reinstall the tires tighten as much as you can , lower the rest the way down & torque to specs ... for mine it's 140ft lbs .

Now test drive and take measurements.

Hope this helps someone out !

Oh , I almost forgot ...

Go HOGS !

Very nice write up. I have the .75 TGC spacers on mine and think I might switch them out for the 1.5"s. Try to get a little bit of rake back in for towing. Truck looks great [emoji106]

Thanks !
That's exactly why I went 1.5 " , not necessarily for the added rake but mainy
because when I hook up my bass boat with only about 125 lbs of tounge wt . my truck sags down about 1" and I realy don't like how that looks .

Wow this is great write up, however when I installed the same spacer I only disconnected the bottom of the shocks and dropped the axle down. Didn't take anything else off or have to disconnect anything.

Look about 30 minutes with a fork lift, impact gun and pry bar.

Will my air lift 1000 bags still work with 1inch TGC rear spacers?

I don't have the air bags , but if the air plumbing is going out the top of the coils , then imo yes they will work with the spacers because the the TGC spacers are hollow through the center , about a 3" hole .

Glad I could help Sir !

Looking back , I wish now I'd done the 1" TGC SPACERS. ... as I'm a bit ass high .

The 1.5" spacers are perfect when I'm towing or pulling my boat , but 75+ % of the time that's just not the case ..

When I install my 6" BDS lift kit , I'll be focusing on an absolute LEVEL ....

LESSONS LEARNED

But again , glad I could help you out !

That 6" will be perfect would love to afford that look.
I have to call myself out, after I got my tgc on tonite I was measuring and had a Wtf moment, was exactly level. Then my ******* remembered I had picked up 20- 15" concrete pavers and a few bags of leveling sand and all were still in bed, good grief, super face palm
