Here is a DIY on how to disassemble your 4th gen power mirrors with puddle lights. I couldn't find any info anywhere on how to do this so here it is!

First take the mirror and push on the bottom center so that the top of the mirror is fully exposed

Next grasp the top of the mirror on both upper corners with both hands and pull firmly towards you (This is scary but this is how it comes off)
*You can see from this picture that the mirror has two clips at the top and a hinge at the bottom*

There are three screws holding the front cover of the mirror on including one hidden inside here

Puddle light removed
*You can see the water damage to the puddle light*

Puddle light disassembled
*No heat required lightly pry the edges of the puddle light and it will come apart like so*
**The puddle light is very poorly sealed with hot glue. You may want to take the time to reseal yours with silicone to prevent failure. Mine are all corroded inside due to water**

I made my puddle lights black housing which looks much better and matches my headlights. I will update with completed pictures of the modded puddle light tomorrow!

Enjoy! :naughty:

Puddle light is held in by the front cover. When you remove the front cover there is one plastic tab on the puddle light you press from the inside and it falls out.

Well, I just tried this because I want to tint my puddle lamps, and let's just say that the mirror doesn't come out as easily as I had hoped. Those 2 clips holding the top in WILL NOT let go. So now my driver side mirror is no longer a powered mirror...

This is a tough task. The first time I did it, I cracked my driver side mirror. The next time(after seeing how they fit together) I used some WD40 with the straw attached and did my best to get all the connection points wet. It got a little messy but it came apart much easier(without cracking the glass).

FYI I had to do this when I painted my mirror caps body color, and messed up one of the motors. It was hanging on for dear life and messed up the gears, and it was a ***** trying to find a replacement motor. What I did because it was so tight is tilt the mirror all the way down and pinch the clip with some right-angle needle nose pliers and it popped right out. Sorry to hijack a little bit but wanted to share my horror story about this so others dont have an issue...

Wanted to update this thread as I haven't been on here for awhile.

Sold this truck and ended up just picking up a 2014 1500 Sport :happy107:

Here is my old 09 with the puddle lights blacked out

You want to make sure you pull evenly on the mirror. If you start flexing the glass too much and applying pressure in one spot you may have issues :naughty:
