So I was asked to do a write up on how I removed my door inner door panels and windows to apply sound deadening. I will attempt to do this. I did this alone. It will be very helpful if you have a second set of hands for the window removal part.

Tools needed are:
T30 torx driver
T20 torx driver
10mm socket
Small pick tool
Phillips head screw driver.
Impact driver saves tons of time. b1539602ccc4f7f9152b1df3a9b1870c.jpg

First remove plastic cover behind the mirrors.

Remove trim behind handle by using the pick tool to remove cover for the Phillips head screw holding it in place. d53fb012a7f4307f017c2a74e978151c.jpg

Remove switch panel 0933832df856b7ec6254149f1b2237a2.jpg

Remove all 7 plastic screws holding the outer panel in place with the T20 torx driver fc933612df49129a7688959e21cf759e.jpg

Now pull panel up and away. 790a3be3afd1257b7188c7e8bc1d1cca.jpg95f26f69debc687b68ba73ac10aa25d4.jpg

Remove the 13 10mm screws holding the inner panel in place. I would leave 2 of the top edge screws in loosely. e0302316a17f7aa749d4578421547299.jpg

Remove speaker ba10bd4237bb1fc124298ff2d9bd34bf.jpg

Remove the T30 torx screws holding the door latch.9a4466c70002017d2e2f934cf364659c.jpg

Pop open square cover for access.98467edb8d9f25f5082dcf030b9e355b.jpg

Unhook the door lock and handle rods from the latch.67a6bf1548b0f9f39f4b629207f43dad.jpg

This is where it is helpful to have a second set of hands.

Remove felt window trim. 845ca12a0b61a2af838f621ad433d264.jpg565207460ce18dcfec2a2ff2a380d4a9.jpg

Plug back the window switch and roll down window until you get the white plastic holders aligned with the access holes on the tracks. Front hole will be behind the speaker and rear will be behind the square plastic cover.88f5cceb51bc88c7bcc4acf74ae9d598.jpg58ed713292197abd4436e4ee0b455b62.jpg

Using your torx driver, press on the release tabs to remove the window from the track. b522b177236e2cef3c6abb83ef186d84.jpg3d9be1be2339d1006f236b8fd3b7b2d5.jpg

At this point, remove the last screws holding the inner panel in place, slide the panel forward towards the front of the doors, slide out and put to the side. Please note that it will be much easier if you remove the wiring from the door panel. Unplug the regulator and door modules.8b06e47e2518633b32c5861da181dbc1.jpg

Now the window glass is detached from the track and it is sitting inside the door. Turn the glass 90 degrees and slide up and out. Easier to remove from the outside of the doors. Now you can do anything you want in there. Perfect time to replace door handles as well. b78a84613673868ce52d94af3171099c.jpgaee631fd6ac90a32d6eea7038750aff5.jpg

As always, reverse the process to reinstall. Hope this helps some of you guys!

Good write up. There are two small torx that hold the harness to the door on the front edge there. Remove those and it will give you a little more play in the wires if you don't want to disconnect everything.

Awesome write up! I've heard switching the ha does themselves is a pain. Is the hardest part just the removal of everything prior to handle swap? Thanks for this and the pics are great!

My 2013 looked a little different when I replaced the speakers. I would assume the process is about the same.

does anyone know what this is called or what would I use to remove this? Would a Torx bit work? I havent tried but figured since I am stuck at work all day , I would ask to prepare myself for what I need.

Nevermind, just went outside and checked and a T30 will still work.

It really helped me with the basics on my 2018 recently. In fact it’s still helping me. I’m only half done.
I did a 20% tint on my drivers side front window. Taking the glass out, after figuring out that the heavy duty felts in the door trim would present too much of a challenge for it to be perfect, I went with your instructions.
Minor differences I found on my ‘18 were 12-10mm bolt vs 13, no outside screw below door latch and my speaker looked different. So no big deal
Still only half done but when the ole lady comments the job looks factory, I have to give you the credit. Here’s a garage pic of the window. Sorry to the techies on board if the detail may be less then perfect.
Thank you much!

I have deadened the entire cab, only thing left is doors and headliner. I was intimidated by the doors until I saw this write up. Thank you for the taking the time to provide such an excellent stress reliever @67datto

@67datto I do have a few questions; on the inner door panel, did you do anything on the backside of that as far as deadening or rattle reduction? and the inner plastic panel, did you do anything to it?

I just finished deadening my 2018. I did all doors, headliner, floorboard and behind the rear seat. I used Noico products from Amazon. It's so quiet now I'm hearing new noises like my seat belt retractors squeaking!

The headliner was a bit of a pain and you have to remove the 3rd brake light to get access to the wiring which is glued to the headliner. There is also a primary cable glued to the liner just above the driver's seat that must remain in place. The liner will drop down from the back once you disconnect the connectors at the two back pillars. I used string to tie off the liner going through the rear and front door openings, until I was ready to drop it down. It will not come out of the truck without bending so don't try it. I was able to cover all the sheet metal above the liner with sound deadening mat's followed by Noico's green foam liner. I can post some pics if needed.

I'm not sure when or if I will do the headliner. The truck is so quiet now that I hate my windows lol. Every piece of glass in that truck stands out. The biggest reason I would do the headliner would maybe be for insultaion from the Texas sun. Have you noticed any difference in temp?
