Aren't 2017 rams already out? I know the 2500 is...

Yes, they are. The radios in the 2017 trucks are the same generation as 2013-2016. It's possible we could see the next generation UConnect in 2018, but I doubt it. The 5th gen 1500 is supposed to debut for the 2019 model year, so I have a feeling they'll probably wait until then. I really hope that I'm wrong, because there's a much better chance of getting a 2018 radio working in a 2013-2017 than a 2019 one.

Not sure. I was holding off on buying one until somebody had tested it to see if it would have any functionality at all(the CAN differences were a big unknown). Up until now, the most info we got was from a guy who tried it in his 200 and it was basically useless. If the camera is the only major issue and I can find one from an actual production car for a reasonable price, I'll probably get one and try to figure out the camera.

I was wondering if the camera and camera return signal pins are swapped on the 2017 ra4's? Although I don't think the image would like like that if that was the issue. I'd need to see a 2017 schematic to know for sure.

Nope. They're in the same place, and go directly between the camera and the radio. But, some of the newer models have multiple cameras and it looks like they possibly use a a separate bus and are somehow multiplexed together. I wonder if that is complicating anything.

You're welcome to try one or for ya and report back but most likely it will have more issues/be less compatible.

The 2017 Charger, 300, and Challenger are currently the only vehicles that gave the next gen Uconnect with CarPlay and Android Auto. If TNRam installed a radio with those features, it was from one of those cars.

Is it possible to install a 2016+ ra4 radio in a 2014 truck and get the back up cam button working and all other new thing ?

I have done the 5.0 to 8.4 swap, I have a 2013, and I would love to turn on the cam on the go.

Does the 2016 have a dedicated button for the backup cam if that's all you gave? I have a 2016 radio in my 2013 but I have the cargo cam enabled. That gives me a "cargo cam" button and from there I can select either the cargo or tailgate camera with the buttons on the top left.

So it's possible to put a 2016 radio in older truck. Did you do something special to do it ?

I've read somewhere long time ago it was not possible to get the camera working on 2013-2014. Nice to see they was wrong. Now it the time to sell my ra4 and find a 2016 radio.

Can you enable the backup camera while driving now that you have the cargo cam enabled or do you need to be in reverse? This may have just moved up on my things I want list. Also can't wait until I can have those heated seats and wheel icons on my screen! Hopefully sooner than later.

I didn't do anything to get most of the stuff working. I needed the OBDGenie to enable the USB port and cargo cam options. From what I understand, the USB is only an issue on 2013 trucks. Ricks Ram is running a '16 radio in his '14 and didn't have the USB issue I did.

I'm having some issues with my radio now, but I don't believe they have anything to do with it being a '16 as I have been using it since June and this is the first problem I've had.

Yes and no. I took that photo a little while ago in my driveway in park. However, on the older trucks the cameras are programmed to turn off above 5 or 10 mph so you'll get a blank blue screen when you get moving. I'm working on a workaround for that, but got sidetracked by my other issue.

OK thank you.

I thought you had the oem rear view button. I know on 2016 truck you can turn on manually at low speed. But according to what I read, that option doesn't transfert on older model.

Too bad we had to bought the obdgenie to activate this option :(

Did the upgrade during the summer. Upgraded to 8.4N, Harness and HVAC controls. Worked flawless all summer and fall. Then an issue arrived. First time temp was below freezing and nothing. No radio, no backup camera totally blank. The fan control speed worked fine but couldn't change anything else without the screen. I figured it was a fuse or loose connection but everything checked out. Was busy at work so waited a few days and was going to check again. In the mean time the weather improved and radio just came on. Everything worked great. Fast forward, temperatures are below freezing and again nothing.

I'm frustrated and just ready to disconnect and go back to the 5.1.

Does anyone have any idea what could cause the problem or what I should check?

Cold solder joint maybe? I would check to see that the fuses are fully seated to include the hidden one near the battery. Either of those situations could cause things to contract just enough to lose power.

A while back I went to start my truck and the face of the head unit was all white. Radio worked everything else did but I couldn't see anything to change nothing. Shut off the truck three times it's working fine ever cents. I have a 2016 dodge ram sport the 8.4 head unit.

Mine did this the other day at 2* outside, but came right back after a key cycle.
It seems to me that the 8.4's are just sensitive to extreme cold.

Another thing to check is your battery voltage. 00R/T and someone else? reported an issue with the radio blanking out when it dropped low. Not sure of the cutoff, maybe 11.8v. One of them replaced the battery and had no more issues. How old is your battery?
