I am in the process of putting a 8.4 VP4 NA part# 68258671AG software version 15.41.4 in my 2015 1500. The truck came equipped with the smaller touch screen model.
However I have run into a snag. I don't get any volume and on the settings page I cannot access any of options I get a message saying key must be in run position. I am at a loss I don't know where to go from here.
Please can someone help me.

That's strange...is the radio from a RAM truck? If you can I would try to perform s factory reset on the radio. Hold down the hot and cold HVAC buttons until a menu pops up. Hopefully you have the 8.4 HVAC control bezel already right? If so, there will be a factory reset option in that menu.

Yes it is from a Ram. I got it used. Came with the bezel wiring and additional module . I did the factory reset . Only thing that changed is now the background shows the u connect logo and not the silver brushed background. The only way that it will make sound is if connected to my phones Bluetooth and I make a call . It will play through the truck speakers .

Do several power cycles. Key out, door open then close, wait for dash lights to go out then turn the truck back on. Let radio power up completely and repeat (x3)...

This sounds like your issue. Read the 2 linked posts there and let us know if you think it's the same?
I tried 3 2016 radios in my 13 ram and couldn't get any to work. Tried updating the FW in my truck and partially brick it. If it's not recognizing truck is in run position, don't try the update. Worked fine in DeereGuy's 16 ram 2500.
PS: where did you get the conversion harness? Are the wires all the same color (ie white = GuK or Green = Bck57)

Yes ( No Sound/No Volume up & dwn control. "Settings"menu locked out/doesn't recognize key in "run") is exactly what I have going on . I bought the kit form a guy on Facebook 4th gen page he had it in a 2015 as well. The harness is all white wires.

Not just because I make them but, Ugh....
Are those 3m Scotch Lock splices on there? That looks rough & like a problem waiting to happen/fail. Can't imagine what the crimps inside the connector look like if the splices for the bezel aren't even soldered. That's just bad.

First thing I did was cut out the sections of damaged wire from the Scotch locks. And replace with heat shrink barrels . I am an electrician by trade so I know those things are bad news. (Since all the wires are white I did this one wire at a time so there was no confusion .)

All the ones from the OP are usually trouble free, except the 2016 radios. FW version 17.43.x is the latest (17.11.x allowed backup and cargo cam at same time). 2017 Ra4 will have the newest map files.
Here's one for $600 (a bit high but not by much)...

Note: the first 3 digits of the PN are unique for each model year. Last 2 alpha digits don't matter.
If you can find a decent deal on one you can even install a 2018 UAx radio (Android Auto/CarPlay), but yours need a 2018 HVAC module, 18 USB hub, & hub adapter harness....

PS: not sure if you have to have nav but etTodd has a good deal on a 2015 RA3 ...
PS: just to add, that 16 Ra4 probably doesn't have anything wrong with it, just that your truck's BCM doesn't like it. If you know anyone with a 13-18 ram near you that can test it in their truck, you could verify it (16 or newer would be best).

If you come down near St Louis for any reason I'd test it for you. I have one you could test for me too (not sure if the NAV works at all or just doesn't work in my truck).
