Thanks for the advice! I had to get my wife's skinny arms to come help. The drivers door by far was the worst, but after that it was pretty smooth sailing other than some dropped bolts.

I've had this cued in my list of things to do for years now and finally got around to it. Chrome to color matched is definitely great. The amount of effort this took though was amazingly ridiculous. I've lifted my old half ton twice, lifted my 3/4 twice, and a friends 3/4 ton...and this was one of the worst installs compared to all of that for some reason. Cue an "LOL" there. This write up definitely gave some direction thankfully! I had to drill a second hole thanks to the passive entry wiring. Just a heads up for anyone else considering this.

For everyone asking where to buy these I got them from weRmopar.com. I just emailed them what I needed and they compiled the part number list. I shopped around and they were the cheapest I found. The passive entry ran them up though. $330 for all 4.

Great write up. I'm planning this mod in the next week or so.

Did you have to swap the lock cylinder from the old to the new handle on the driver front door?

Wasn't to difficult. Drilling the holes is a definite must do though.

I just bought covers from eBay
2009-2017 Ram Ext/Crew Cab GLOSS BLACK Door Handles no PSK+Tailgate Covers w/KH | eBay

Simpler solution. I used 3m, and spray adhesive.
The tailgate fit perfect and the door covers replaced the chrome I pulled off. Only gripe is the cover for the actual handle isn't exact. So you can see a little bit of the chrome on top if you stand directly at the door. But I'm satisfied.

Idk why that pic is rotated...

You can thank photobucket for that, holding all pics ransom until they pay some ridiculous fee for image hosting. If you see these images, the likelihood is that it will always stay like that. I have a DIY for tow hook install that I did a while ago and photobucket killed it. I no longer have those pics so I just gotta hope the text can lead some people through the project

Oh yea, and this is for photobucket :flipthebird::suicide:

I agree on it would be nice to see the photos. I want to replace the red handles on my sport with black ones.

Me and thousands of others used PB to show off our sports cards. Since the sites downfall months ago we now use Flickr. And it's free. Just spreading the word on that.

I also got the black adhesive covers from ebay- I haven't installed yet, but I was having a grill painted anyway and had the handle covers sprayed too. Hopefully they'll hold up well, but for $25 (plus paint) and 10 min install it's worth a shot! I included a photo of the exposed chrome mentioned above.

Hope this helps someone.

So I had an unfortunate incident where I pulled the entire front moving part of the handle out of the handle base. The part that connects to the rods was still attached. With no way to get it back in except for removing the chrome handle, that's what I opted to do. However, after pulling unscrewing the chrome part of the handle and popping the handle "frame" back in, I found get the chrome part screwed back in. So I finally got a chance to fix it. I discovered all you have to do to get the inside panel off far enough to get at the handle really is to remove all the bolts that hold it on, about 13, pop the clips that hold the rods on, remove the speaker. Roll the window down until the clips are in both windows, push the clips in on both sides and pull up the window and tape it to the top of the door. Then you can pull the inside door panel out enough to get to the handle.

I followed most of this video until I got to the part where they started popping wires off. I had to drill a hole through the back of the handle to get the screws through and back into the chrome part of the handle.

Thanks for the write-up. I semi-followed it a week ago to swap out my door handles. It took a couple hours to get it done and tore my arms up, but was well worth it. Looks so much better now with color matched handles!!
