Ok forgive me, but my last three trucks were toyotas. On that side of the fence, they were modifying the stock grill by cutting the middle and leaving the shell, then adding mesh that was recessed, giving the jet intake look. They look great and cost next to nothing...$20-$40...well I haven't seen anything like that on the dodges, but think it would look badass. Thoughts??? Here's a pic to reference. Some guys also added larger lettering to give a raptor look, which I like too.

Cost a lot more than $40 to do it though since the crosshairs come all the way out to the lip, which is why all the big mouth grilles on Dodge/Rams are flush to the front. There's quite a bit of fab work to make it look good since you need to fill in the holes, smooth it out, then prime and paint.

It was pretty cheap to do on the toyotas. I guess that's maybe why it's so popular on them compared to the dodges. I love the truck btw. Looks awesome!

I went the easy way and bought a grille, cut out the center and laid the grille over the opening. Looks good. But I appreciate the work you did to get the look you have. Nice job.

Thanks, I've thought about doing that but it gets a lot of comments with it being out there and obvious. The truck isn't subtle in anyway so I kinda like it the way it is. I'm going to powder coat the brackets though when I do the piping.

I'm gonna make a grill like yours I think. I'm gonna wrap it in carbon fiber though. Leave the carbon exposed. How did you attach the mesh you used?

I used some angle brackets that I JB welded to the backside of the frame then fiberglassed them in to hold them in place permanently. I bent the mesh to match up with the brackets and bolted into place

Thanks for replying. After some research, there is a pretty good write up for the satoshi write up that would work for us. Little more fiberglass work of course. They epoxied threaded rod to the frame running through the grill, and just using a washer and a nylon nut to secure it. I found a grill local to me so I'll be beginning my journey here pretty quick.

Toyota Tacoma Satoshi Grill Mod - DIY

There were a couple other ones that I found, but this seemed to be the better of them. You have to realize its for a Toyota, and I'll be adapting this to my Ram grill modification.

I found a chrome grill local to me for 50 bucks. It had a scratch on it and he took 50 bucks. I wanted to take the chrome off, but it's actually a thin layer of metal. So I got the center section cut out, fiberglassed the recess, bondo'd to make a nice smooth line. I think it needs to be a "deep dish" surround, so I'm gonna try and get that goin before I wrap it in carbon fiber. The grill is huge. I ordered my metal with out measuring it. Gonna make it work though.

That's one of the best things about being able to see the intercooler through the grille. Actually seeing it! People know what it is and HAVE to ask questions lol

I love looking out and seeing mine peeking through :naughty:
