So first off let me say that I am not a professional painter. I'm a jack of all trades with the use of google and learn from trial and error. So if any of you professionals wanna chime in some tips you are more than welcome to. With that being said let's start this off

1. I plasti dipped my tips about 1 year ago and have been procrastinating actually painting them permanently. So I must remove the old dip which was much harder than you can imagine.

2. So I went to Walmart and got some 80 grit sand paper and some paint stripper. I took the tips off and first washed them with dawn and got water to remove any mud and debris. I let them dry for about 2 hours.

3. I sprayed them with the stripper and let it sit 39 mins or so and use a rag with warm water to wipe away chemical and then used 80 grit paper to remove paint. I did this process 3 times until all paint was removed.

4. I then washed them with dawn again and rinsed them to remove all chemicals so paint will stick. I went over them 1 last quick time to make sure they were good and roughed up to apply paint.

5. They are currently drying and will let them dry over night and will primer them tomorrow after work. So stay tuned!!!!

And this is what they look like after drying for a few hours. No more old dip left but they are still kinda slick and I'm not sure if the paint will adhere to it very well. I'm now thinking of getting maybe a 60 or 40 grit and sanding them some more before applying.

This is the paint iv chosen for this task. More to come. So stay tuned!!!! IMG_0250.JPGIMG_0249.JPG

Ok so yesterday I bought the wife a charger so didn't get time to mess with the tips. So we are a mopar family now!!!

After letting the tips thoroughly dry I didn't like the slick feel of the tips and thought the paint might not stick so I went to lowes and got a 60 grit gator sand pad and went to work. Soooo much better. I could see cross hatching in the tips and metal piping so I feel comfortable applying primer. Wiped them down to get residue off and let them sit dry for an hour.

I have just now applied 1 coat of primer and currently letting them dry. I will apply 2 coats then sand them with 320 and might apply 3rd coat if I think they need it. Stay tuned!!! 46c2a80ffca1783c8dbb81d8a02f8677.jpg3097460b6674dc6aebe47881cede083f.jpg2997a8e9988ef2dae821897999be178a.jpg

Alright so fellas I think I'm just about complete. After 4 coats of the black paint I decided they didn't match the other black trim on my truck. So they needed a shine. I went and got a can of the VHT clear satin. And the moment of truth is here. Here they are competed. I will install them tomorrow once they fully cure over night. Thanks for all those who read and followed this small cheap DIY fix to those hideous exhaust tips. d983a20d98cb3f5b85eb21e1226c6c8c.jpg

Congrats! My wife upgraded to her Mopar a couple of months ago. There should be a Mopar family thread. Sorry a little off topic but again congrats those Chargers are the ****!
