I reversed engineered a Vararam Air Grabber to work on my 3rd with a custom made snorkel about two years ago and thought ya'll might be interested in an update to how its holding up. I couldn't be happier with the performance to which it is doing. I'll post some up close photos, but the only thing I see is a little cracking in the paint on the scoop. There's a little "contact" spots showing on the underside of the hood, top of the filter lid and the scoop itself which isn't to concerning as I designed it to fit within close tolerances. Let me know if you have any questions.

and some shots from the inside to show tolerances. Notice the rubber spacer nipples between the front of the scoop and the back of the radiator support. The rivets on the top of the scoop on the front hold a plastic diffuser (made from plastic diffuser used in neon lights you see in ceilings of office buildings) in place inside to block anything large, ie-birds and such from entering.

Hey, where there's a will, there's a way. You'd have to take in account your active shudders but I believe you could do it. Let me know if you wanna attempt it and I can help you.

Bumpin an older thread but looks Fantastic!

I want to run the Vararam but most good reviews are on the 4th gen, so I've been looking for information on how to get on to fit on the 3rd gens.

That's exactly what I did, mines a 4th gen I re-engineered to fit my 3rd gen.

I looked at the scoop you made which looks like a good bit of work and ingenuity.

How about the Vararam itself, was it a fairly straight forward fit, or a lot of tinkering?

My first assumption is 90% elbow to mate with 3rd gen TB?

You have to make a custom 90 elbow with a notch that will go around the AC lines, so yeah, it's a lot of tinkering in that regards. Fastening it so it can be removed easily is a bit of brainstorming as well, but you could use my idea and it comes off in two seconds. Notice the "posts" on both sides of the "pan" sticking up (one seen to right of lifted scoop), that's what the "hood latches" snap onto to hold the scoop down. You have to relocate your overflow tank too, you can see I made a bracket and moved mine to the side but had to use a longer bottom hose to run back to the radiator. The Vararam "pan" is held in place with butterfly screws to mounts that are permanently bolted to existing tapped holes, this way I can remove the entire unit by undoing a couple of butterfly screws and my intake hose and it comes right off to work on anything on top of the engine. The whole unit is very sturdy and stout.
