Factory keyless entry the easy way. Learn from my mistakes.
Always wanted RKE on my 02 1500. Doing some research read I could order the module($100), install it and take to the dealership to program. The install was easy enough, then took to the dealership and they couldn't figure it out. Returned my truck without keyless entry and took 66 bucks for the pleasure.
Now here is the cheaper and easier way to do it.
1. Go to the junkyard, and pull an old RKE module. It's behind the gauge cluster bout size of a pack of cigarettes.
2. Install in your truck.
3. Order the Dorman 99164 RKE program kit ($60)
4. Follow the easy instructions.
You now have factory RKE
Note:
1.truck must already have power door locks.
2. Dorman instructions are clear enough but need more specifics.
Turn key to on
Plug in programming module
It will then beep 3 times, pause, beep 2 times, pause beep 2 more times, then you are on programming mode.
Follow instructions programming the Dorman fob first, then any additional fobs. If done correctly the truck will chime after each fob is programmed correctly. Wait 2 min. And you should be good to go.
Hope this helps.
