This is pretty simple DIY but I figure I would make one in case anyone was having trouble finding it or replacing it.

Time: 10-15min

Cost: $6-$15 depending on where you buy it

Tools:
Flat Head Screw Driver
Needle Nose Pliers

LOCATION: Attached to the Oil Filler on the side

Step 1: Remove Air filter box to have better access to the PCV valve

Step 2: remove the hose attached to it by just pulling on it towards the firewall if it's pretty stuck on there you can use the screw driver to loosen it up.

Step 3: push the PCV valve in and turn it counter clock wise. Then pull

Step 4: Repeat all the steps backwards and your done.

Hope this help someone :)

Is there an interval (mileage or time) that this needs to be done or is it a symptom thing?

To recirculate crankcase vapors. In other words to burn off oil vapors instead of spewing these terrible fumes into the enviroment!
Its good for dirtying up the inside of your intake and throttle body.

If anyone is wondering, for the 2007 Ram with the 4.7L V8, the PCV valve is to the back right of the throttle body on the valve cover. Use a 35mm deep socket to get it off after you've removed the hose.

I believe that I read somewhere on this site that the 2003 4.7 has an internal PCV, not like the one on this 2002. Is that correct? IF it is internal or more difficult to get too than it needs to be, is it still worth inspecting/changing/ or modifying?

That is a 4.7. Your 5.7 has the pcv valve on top of the intake manifold near the throttle body. Twist the old one out and twist the new one in.

I read somewhere they should be renewed every 30,000 miles. Only ran across one bad PCV, it was on my sons 2001 Dakota with 4.7 engine with 177,000 miles. Easy way to tell if good or bad is if they rattle its working, no rattle it needs changed.
