Very nice write up...But if you like more of the matte color black, you can do without the clear coat. I did my tails with nothing more than the night shade. I even left the tails on the truck, just taped everything off and if there was over spray, it came off easily with some Goo Gone spray and a rag.

the problem with the matte finish is that it reduces the light output even more than just tinting, when you polish them they gain some transparency so they look dark and are still bright

Great write up! Unfortunately one of my tail lights was cracked when I bought it so I didn't get a chance to tint my own since JStrag3 hooked me up with a good deal on used tinted tails, but I'm gonna do my 3rd brake light this weekend and this write up will help for sure.

I did mine this past Monday, I chose not to do the clearcoat, but did the polish. I love the way they look, and the light output is still pretty strong.

Thanks for the write up!!!!

This looks great.
Would you recommend doing this lightly on the headlights?

Looks nice. My problem is where I live the cops can be major buttheads. Headlight tinting is an immediate ticket. For the taillights they get a meter that measures the lumens and if it is not up to what they say it is supposed to be its a ticket. Gotta be real careful when you do something like this so you do not attract the interest of the po po.

Good write up. I used a peelable tint like plastic dip. They are very dull looking
