I'm wanting to color match my bumper and was wondering if anyone has done this before? How did you go about with the chrome removal?

It has to be sandblasted off. That's the only way to do it. That chrome is so hard you'd never be able to scuff it up enough for the paint to stick.

I've had luck scuffing the chrome up and having paint sticking. The front bumper will need about 10 coats

There is also the option of using an adhesion promoter on the bumper before painting there are a few on the market. The other option for colour matching is to do vehicle wrap on the bumper.

Not recommended for longevity but can be done.
A primed steel bumper is not very expensive, probably the best way when all is said and done.

Unless you're ready to bodywork it, I would say no. As others have suggested above, they do make products (adhesion promoters) but as somebody else mentioned if you want any longevity out of it you should do it right. Even better, you should buy an aftermarket primed bumper relatively inexpensively. Just my .02 cents.

That looks good.

Hope it stays on for ya.

I want to do mine one day. I'd like to black all my chrome out.

I got the bumper as rough as I could for the primer to stick, lots and lots of prep work and I love it changed the look completely
