The title says it all, I have a new rotor and cap, can't get the old rotor off. Any ideas?

don't know the year, engine, so here's a shotgun answer. if you pull too hard you might damage something. So, if you could carefully pry down on the shaft and pry up on the rotor at the same time that might be best.
Another last resort: Since the rotor is plastic, you could cover up the dist body with tape, and use a chisel to break the old rotor. If you don't like that idea, maybe carefully use a propane torch to soften the plastic, until it slips off.

Ivee had this happen on old chevys. Just take a large enough pair of side cutters or a cable cutter and crush the head of the rotor. Once it cracks, it will come off much easier.

I like Duder''s idea better.

I just went through the same thing on my 96 1500 4x4, just get in a good position and wiggle and pull, It might seem scary but with enough force it will pop right off and wont hurt a damn thing
