So I have a 98.5 dodge cummins 2500 4x4 I drove it today a bit and everything was working fine. I went to move it and no reverse. Playing with it a bit when you put in reverse its like its in neutral then when you put it in neutral It's in drive and stays In forward gear all the way down to first. When I move it back up to park it stays I. Drive for a sec then locks in park. I checked the linkage and everything is fine from the Collum to the transmission. It is pushing the shifter all the way forward and back.

Is this a common problem? How do I fix it and how much will it cost?

Thanks in advance. I hope someone can help me quickly because I need this truck on the road.

Update: I pulled the truck back and pulled the shifter all the way down and drove it. I shifted it up manually till I was in drive and when I stopped I tried reverse and it worked. Whatever was out of wack lined itself back up. Still interested in knowing what could have caused this and how to fix it though.
