2002, 4.6L 150,000 miles. Was my old pos truck before getting the ram. I sold it to my daughter's bf for only $500. He's a full time student and doesn't have much money. Well it puked out a plug; rt bank, 2nd from rear. Took the coil with it. Plugs were new @ 100K miles. ☹️ What's the proper fix, short of a new head? Bearing in mind current mileage, truck only worth about $3K running....

Thanks!

Find an actual "mechanic", he can helicoil that hole with head still installed. This was a common problem with the 5.4's and my theory was it was from over torquing the plugs on install.

Yep, good advice. They don't take that long to install and should last a long time.

That's great that it can be fixed with the head still in place. Yep, going to a shop for this fix. Not gonna attempt it.

DO NOT put a helicoil in the plug hole unless you intend to sell the truck. They don't last. I had a 2003 F150 before my Ram and the proper fix is a Timesert. Check any F150 site and you will see that. It also can be done without removing the head and will last the life of the engine.

No helicoil here. Gonna use a timesert. Well, not by me... Plan on keeping it. Goes in today.

I had never heard of timeserts before. I just googled them and checked them out, they do look sooooo much better than a helicoil, especially for plug holes
