Long story short - I put DEF fluid in my 2015 Ram 2500. The truck has 10,000 miles on it. My insurance company totaled the vehicle...stating it needed a new engine. The dealer already cleaned out the tanks, replaced fuel lines and filters. Dealer stated that he injectors need replacing. Coast? $23,000. The insurance company is offering me the truck for $13,000. My question is...should I buy it back and have the injectors replaced myself? Is it worth it?

You would probably have to replace the HPFP and the injectors, but I doubt DEF would have done any damage to the engine.

Even if you fixed it, you will have a truck with no warranty. Can you absorb the cost of anything else that may break? Plus it will probably come with a salvage title assigned to it and that will play hell if you ever look to sell it.

I knew about gasoline but DEF? Did you run the whole tank through the motor? I just can't wrap my head around some DEF destroying the tank, lines and entire motor. That is insane.

$23 grand for injectors? wow

So 13k for a 55k truck? Sounds like a deal to me.

Diesel Exhaust Fluid
It is injected into part of the exhaust system to lower NOx on diesel powered vehicles

Youtube has been super helpful. I didn't know DEF could do that to everything. The whole fuel system would be gummed up from the fuel tank all the way to the injector nozzle. IDK what it would do if allowed to crystallize in the cylinders. Could possibly scrape/burn off. Everything else is toast. Would be pricy. I would take the money and get a new truck tbh.

Still skeptical about 23g injectors though. There was a new rail and injectors with less than 20k miles on it on cumminsforum not that long ago that was only about 3 grand if I remember right.
