I am looking to get a scan tool. Any recommendations?
I would like to also read ABS and SRS codes.
And any Chrysler specific codes.

Thanks,

Dan

How powerful do want this scanner to be? Just a code reader or a full-fledged scan tool with live-data, module activation, CAN support, etc?
I have a CarMD reader that I was given as a Christmas gift which reads generic codes well but nothing more.
I also have an Auto Enginuity PC-based scan tool that is much more powerful and, yes, much more expensive.

The more powerful the better. Really want Chrysler codes too.
Had a problem with tire pressure system. Would like to read that code if possible.

Is there a reasonably cheap tool capable of reading the transmission temp on an 07 ram1500?

Glowshift Transmission Temp Gauge. Since you have Galaxy there is also the Torque App for Android and then buy a BT dongle. Displays quite a bit of OBDII parameters but not sure on the trans' temp. Mine did not but i have a 04 but it may show for your year (CANBUS).

An OBDII solution is preferred as there's next to nothing to install. I have used torque for years, sadly its limited to only a few working pids on the 3rd gen hemi.

How much do you want to spend is a better question. A good scanner is $$$$
And there is a difference between an OTC genisys evo at ~ 2500$ or a snap on starting at ~ 5000$

An evo is a good everyday scanner for most makes but if you are really serious go with the snap on especially for mopar applications it really excells, aside from being 52x faster and less frustrating than archaic evos

As i always say snap on + dodge = no time to **** around, its almost like they were made to compliment each other!!!

We also have a ford OEM scanner/laptop because fords suck and if you want to fix them fast and efficently its totally worth the money!
The local ford dealer also sends us thier HD alignments because they dont have the capabilitys or a good tech iim not sure but either way good for us!

I just ordered a scanner from good ole Harbor Freight that will also do ABS codes for a $100 bucks, now a bunch you guys are gonna' say I am going to get what I paid for 'at best' but I have been using a budget reader since buying my first one from the manufacturer in Phoenix about a dozen years ago for $300 and have always been able to solve my issues with them ....

I use a obd2 usb cable there are plenty of software options to do what you need. Even if you need cables that are make/model specific it is still cheaper to do it that way.

I've used my android phone with torque and no issues. Also, since I have a bluetooth laptop, I've used ScanXL with no issues too.

Snap-On was in the other day and they have one on sale.Regularly $4500 on for $1600.Didn't catch the model# as I wasn't interested, but sounded like a decent deal if you're in the market.Might be worth a call to them.

BTW This is in Ont.,Canada so it might not apply in the States. If it does it'll be a lot less than $1600 I would guess.

They have used ones all the time. At my shop we traded our Genesys in for the Snap-on scan tool. Haven't heard my techs complain since. Haha
