I just got a boat. It's got a 2001 Mercury 60hp 4 stroke. Anyone know what the recommended oil is? ...

You might want to buy a manual for it.. maybe someone here will know off hand.. but if you plan on owning it for a while you'll probably want a service manual anyway.

Shows a few different engine oils for 4 stroke... I suspect 10w-30 is fine.

The motor has a quicksilver filter, which is mercury. QuickSilver's website recommends 25w-40. Mercury actually sells complete oil change kits but i'm not sure if there's a cross reference between filters.

25-40 is the right oil for that motor. Yes there are aftermarket oil filters out there, but I would not go there, stay with Mercury products for your motor. Bias no experience yes.
