Well I finally ponied up and bought a 1911. I had been trying to get a Ruger, and probably still will whenever everything calms down, but right now they aren't even available for my FFL to order. I went with a Rock Island Armory. From everything I've read and everyone I have talked to they are very solid guns, and are priced well. I haven't got to shoot it yet, it just came in today so I can't say how she shoots, but it is very comfortable in my hand.

It's a Rock Island Armory Tactical II FS chambered in 45 ACP.

Here's pics.

MSRP is around 650 I believe, and my best friend happens to hold a FFL and sells to me for his dealer price, so I got it for 488+shipping. Not too bad when you count in all the features the gun has...Fiber optic front sight, combat hammer, skeletonized trigger, extended beaver tail safety, ambidextrous safety, and a nice hard case.

I'm happy with it.

I've heard good things about the RIAs. For the price they are a good reliable shooter. If it were mine I'd get that front strap checkered, and go pick up some Wilson Combat 47d or ETM mags. Curious are you going to conceal carry it, or carry it as a duty weapon?

I already have two Wilson combat 47D mags on order that should be here before the week is over. I feel it's a little too big to conceal. My department won't supply ammo for us unless we shoot a .40 cal, so ill stick with my glock 22 for work. I will probably carry the 1911 when I do off duty stuff. Ill definantly keep it in the truck on road trips, but for right now my concealed gun is a Ruger LCP. Still want a glock 27 and a ruger SR1911 Commander though. I like to have a variety!

Yeah nothing wrong with variety. I conceal my SIG 1911 full size without issue with a horsehide IWB holster. Sometimes it can be a bit uncomfortable but being that I wear a duty belt every night to work it really doesn't bother me all that much. I do want to get a commander sized 1911 though. Thinking about the SIG Traditional Compact.

I heard the sigs are real nice. One of my friends is trying to find a Sig Scorpion 1911. Have you seen the Rugers at all? Very pretty gun, and from what I read they are solid. And moderately priced.

Yeah I've read good things about the Rugers. I'm a member over on 1911forum and the Rugers seem to have a pretty good rep. Taurus is about the only brand that I hear consistently negative things about but I think some of the things people complain about are easily remedied with swapping out some parts. I love my SIG. For $1,000 I got a 1911 that has just about every feature you could really want, the only thing I'm planning on changing is my sights, and I want to swap my slide stop for a Wilson Combat one.

I've also handled and shot the Remington R1 in Stainless. Remington makes a damned fine 1911 and at a good price point as well. The black model of the R1 I've seen new for as low as $569. In that price range I'd easily have it as one of the best 1911 options on the market.

I really like the RIA quality for the money. Never heard any complaints and have seen quite a few torture tests.

I am happy with it... Especially for the price. Comparable 1911's from other manufacturers would be in the 1000+ range.

Springfield Armory actually makes the GI and Milspec in the price range, and Remington makes the R1. If you look hard enough you can get them in the $500-$600 range and I'd say they're pretty comparable with your RIA.
