I had to find 9012 bulbs for mine.. The 9006 bulbs in that housing would never aim the right way the lights would point down and left. Changed to 9012 and no issue. Just thought I'd share

I like the write up, and this will be my first mod to my truck.

Only thing I cant get a straight answer on is what I need to run HIDs in high beams along with the low beams. Do I need a separate 9005 wiring harness or just the high beam splitters from retrofit source?

I'm going to order the projector HID kit thru you guys at Retro Shop. I've emailed Retrofit Source but they kept suggesting I order the projector upgrade kit. I'm not comfortable taking my headlights apart yet.

I'm just trying to get everything figured out before I pull the trigger on this.
Thanks for the help in advance.

if you don't use the highs, no need to run another kit there.

No splitter needed unless you go with a full FXR retrofit.

TRS is great, but they really cater to the retrofitting crowd. Yeah, we all know that its best to run HIDs in projectors...........so they REALLY push it, but the OEM ones aren't horrible with HIDs in them either.

I tried the link on the original post, but apparently this product doesn't exist any longer????

updated! thx!

odd......we've sold a LOT of these using 9006s, and nothing back from customers with that issue

Man what a awesome write up, it's step by step process. So can you run 55w in the stock projector?

I'm having trouble with my kit I got from you guys.
I got 55w low and high beams for the factory style projectors, also got the 35w kit for the fog lights.

The problem I'm having is with the high beam and the fogs:
The high beams don't come on some times when I flip the switch on. It gives me the high beam out warning when this happens. I can take the relays and unplug them from the harness and plug it back in and they will come back on (sometimes).

Also when I have the fog lights on I can either roll down any window or turn my blinker on or hit the gas or brakes, my driver side fog light will turn off and on. I have rechecked all the connections to make sure there where none loose. Sometimes when I turn them on only the passenger side will come on.

Ramcoma, sounds like quite a bit of grounding issues there. Pop me an email and we'll get ya squared away!

Passenger side firing issue

I'm having issues with the passenger side light. It has troubles firing every time. I disabled all the illuminated entry options in the EVIC so as not to wear out the ballasts, and i don't use the auto setting for the lights.

So, when i do turn the lights on, the passenger will just flicker for a sec then stay off while the driver side turns on every time.

Sometimes it takes 5 or 10 tries before the passenger side fires.

Also - it might be worth noting that its quite cold here at the moment - around 10*F.

Any ideas what the issue might be? I checked the ground on that side (i made my own for it) thinking maybe it wasn't solid, but that doesn't appear to be it. Also, both red lights on the relays are on, even if both HIDs don't fire.

Out of ideas @ the moment.

if you want us to do a full retrofit, we can use your lights, or start with a new set here. With shipping from Canada.......its rare that I get a set to work on from up there. Downtime + shipping = not worth it.

If you want a drop in kit, just nab one - I'll ship it ;) I don't have to have your lights for that.

Thanks for the info. I figured as much. I can just check out the drop in kits on your site correct?

50w is the way to go I take it? What Kelvin is best for a balance of brightness and color? 6k?

50W is fine, will give you 20% more output - but life expectancy is down 20% as well. I find that most customers are ok with that - seeing that the warranty is 3 years on the 50W kits......all good ;)

best for brightness and color? 5K. I don't like yellow (4300) or blue (6K) - granted a tinge of both in either, but 5K is my "go to"

Do I need to connect both resistors? The ones that came with the HID's and the ones that came with the wire harness converter for the projector lights?

Doc, where in NJ are you? Thinking of ordering this kit, would love to see how it looks on yours beforehand.
