Nothing dificult about this but I figured I'd post it up for anyone interested in comparison of their own oil change .

My truck 2014 QC 4X4 5.7L 6 speed xsmn 3.55 differentials, rear Anti-spin (LSD)

Milage.

First I drove the truck about 40 miles to warm up oil and collect any metal debris on a small but powerful magnet I installed before I took off.

The rear drain plug is a 14 mm hex .
The filler port is a simple rubber plug.

I removed the Maget draggi it towards the drain and drained all the oil through a paint strainer . Be ready it comes out in a hurry especially when warm / hot . About 2.5 qts.

Almost nothing in the stainer, just small metal debris , the least amount I've ever seen from a rear differential. I've only hauled my bass boat aprox 2,500 lbs fully loaded , and one 8000lbs camper pull for 45 miles for a buddy .

Next I ran a magnet everywhere I could and used it to pull out the remainder of the oil in the bottom of the case .

Filled it up to spillover out the filler port with Redline 75W - 140, this oil already has the Anti-spin friction modifiers additive for the clutch type LSD/ Anti-spin if your truck is equipped with. This oil also can be used in the non Anti-spin / LSD differentials as well. ☆☆NOTE☆☆ On the back of the bottle of RL oil it says if you have chatter in your LDS to add additional friction modifier . I have no chatter with my LSD .

Once done I went to a large parking lot and did 10 ea full lock tight turns in both directions , no chatter for me .

This is a test results sheet of popular gear oils , notice Redline is heads & shoulders above the rest .

Hope this helps someone!

Excellent write up. Just clocked 20K on my truck before dropping it off at the body shop.

Can the RedLine be used in trucks without the LSD rear end like mine?

Good stuff. I'm currently at 31k miles...is this something that needs to be done, or its just optional?

It depends. I believe the "severe service" schedule States it needs to be changed at 20k. Wouldn't hurt to do it now it's easy to do...

Very nice write up RLK! Wish I had thought of using a magnet like that when I did mine!
Thanks buddy , I believe the front end is aluminum? Gonna have to break out my aluminum magnet for the front case

Ha yes it is aluminum. It's more difficult to fill than the rear as the steering rack is perfectly in the way but with a pump its not bad.

Just changed my tcase fluid last weekend as well and that was pretty straightforward.

Sure I'll take some pics when I get home this afternoon.

There should be a tag right on the tcase that says what case it is. I'll get a pic of that this afternoon too. The two tcases on 13+ 1500s are the Borgwarner 44-44 or 44-45. If you have the Borgwarner 44-44, you will need 2 quarts of special fluid from the dealer. It must be made of unicorn tears because it's $28/quart.

Great write up RLK! For the record, Ram LSD's do not need any anti-spin additives as they're a gear type LSD, not a clutch type.

Thank you Sir , I wasn't positive on that so I didn't elude to that on the write up .

The 1500 LSD's are clutch-type, whereas the HD trucks have a helical-type LSD. Check page 781 of the user's manual.

The 1500's do NEED the anti-slip additive.

Now they finally use mechanical!!! Yahoo. Many years they used clutch type with c clips and they were not very good.

It does need to be done , check your owners manual for your spacific interval though .
