See links in post 10. The are 4 connectors you need to check to know whether or not any wiring is there or not. What radio? 1500 or 2500?

See the links in post 10 referencing DannyMk2 and MTGTS and LoveRacing1988's for pictures of the 4 connectors. You will need to look under/inside the truck. It's possible to add the missing factory wiring, or you could just order the Mopar OEM camera kit which comes with everything you need and ignores any existing wiring.

It's unlikely on your 1500 that you have full wiring in the truck.

Glad mine came with the rear camera. But I also added a front view camera to make parking in tight spots easier lol
Did you use the Lockpick, CustomTronix Jailbreak, or something else for the front camera add on?

I installed the backup cam on my truck yesterday, but I don't have the active gridlines. I had to install the entire kit, so all of the wiring had to be done, including splicing the purple wire into the OR/DB wire at the BCM, but I am 99% sure the connection is good (I say 99% because it was my second time ever soldering; my first time was on the PDC wire, which I assume is a good connection because the camera works). I also purchased the AutoEnginuity scanner tool and activated the camera using that. The thing is, I don't have the Parkview options in the Safety settings through the radio, which is another reason I don't think the wiring is the problem, but I may be wrong. I know in Post 10 it says the older software may not show the lines, so I'm hoping this may be the problem, but I can't figure out how to check the software version. When I check for updates on the Uconnect website, it says no updates are available, so the software may be up to date.

Any thoughts?

And if it's an RA2 did you upgrade from the RA1, or is it an original install ?

When I upgraded my software , once you install the thumb drive into your USB port it shows your current software version , then gives you the option to install the new version .
To my knowledge this is the only way to know what you have .

In the settings there is a screen that gives you the software version. It's "System Information" on the RA3. Should be similar on the RA2...

I have the RA2; original install. I looked through the settings earlier, but didn't see a "system information" option.

It's not in the settings on the RA2 to my knowledge.

If the software says up to date for your Vin # then obtain a 2013 Ram with RA2 original vin # and try that .

If that doesn't wk , I have the 5.2.20.1 software for the RA2 on a thumb drive I could send to you . I'm assuming it can be used more than once ?
This is the software version that added the Parkview settings for turning Active Gridlines On / Off for me .

If you pm him the VIN you used, he should be able to download it. Hopefully he is using a vin that matches the model year of the Ra2 radio that is installed.

I just checked my notes , and I do have the Vin # I used .

Will that work ?

I did this August 2015 and at that point the latest software version for the RA2 was 5.2.20.1
I do still have the thumb drive though if it's use able on a diff truck .
It's not worth anything to me now .

Do you recall what year the RA2 was that you had. Looks like he has a 2014 truck with a factory RA2.
Here's a flashback from when I updated the RA2 in my 2013 ... here

If the VIN you have is a 2014 VIN, then you are golden and can PM him the VIN and he can download the FW file (faster, and you can keep your USB drive for RA4 updates).

Sorry for going MIA. I was traveling yesterday afternoon/evening and have been in a training class all morning.

I have a 2014 Bighorn with factory RA2. I was researching earlier and saw some guys on the "other" forum had bricked their radios by installing the 5.2.20.1 update, but I don't know whether that was due to installing a different year's software or a bug in the software. I found a 2014 salvage for sale whose VIN is eligible for the update, so I can download that when I get home Friday. If I do this are you guys fairly confident that I won't brick my radio? I'd rather have no gridlines than be completely without a radio.

It's fine, it's not like you were gone for months and owed us money.

Unfortunately, there are never any guarantees when loading software updates, but you should be okay. Good news is that it will let you see what SW version is currently on the radio before actually loading the update ...

It is very important that you follow the correct sequence in the update directions (per the uConnect Update website) and give yourself time to complete it.

Loading the SW should confirm whether it is a wiring issue (you seem confident it is not) or a radio issue (SW).

Your could also try a full reset of the radio. Link coming ....
From:
2013-2016 RA2/VP2-NA Radio Notes

Soft reset of your Uconnect system:

1) Put your vehicle into the accessories mode (ACC or RUN) **For keyless start (push-button) vehicles: push the start button twice without having your foot on the gas or brake pedal**
2) Hold down the Phone and voice recognition buttons (or the volume and tuner buttons on your radio), at the same time, for thirty seconds
3) Let go of the buttons
4) Turn vehicle off
5) Open driver’s side door for thirty seconds
6) Close door
7) Restart vehicle
8) Let the media centre load up and see if concern is still present

Well crap .....the vin # I have is a 13 Ram 1500 SLT .
Either way , it's a Ram , it's an RA2 And I have the 5.2.20.1 software on a thumb drive .

@ Mpgrimm2 are you sure the software on the thumb drive I have would not work for him ?

Your much better versed in this kinda stuff than I am .

No I'm not sure anymore. I assume it's following a similar model year/PN vs SW setup as the Ra3 and RA4 radios. Only way to know for sure would be to download the SW update for vins from each year and compare them using an MD5 checksum file utility.

I have a 2013 RA2 VIN, just need 2014, 2015, & 2016 Ra2 VINs.

If jcarden PM's me the 2014 vin, I can check. If I get other year VINs, I can check those also.
