#5 in the bullet points. Over filling can cause foaming/air bubbles

Machinery Lubrication

Aeration

When the fluid level is too high, it can come into contact with moving parts. The normal level of the fluid is below these parts. The moving parts can aerate the fluid, causing it to froth and foam. While this may look like cause for alarm, it is harmless.

Leaking Fluid

Overfilling the transmission fluid will not cause seals to break, but they may leak. The transmission is vented so that pressure won't build in the unpressurized areas. Transmission fluid can leak out these vents if it is too high. The seals higher in the transmission may also leak, but these seals are not pressurized.

Sorry. But air bubbles and foaming of oil is NOT somthing you want for obvious reasons.

Machinery lubrication’s article is about how forming of the oil is bad and I will trust them over anybody elses “Blog”. That is about the most reliable source of information on oil info you can get.

Go ahead. Overfill and cause foam. To each his own.

Im done

LoL.

special front diff fluid?

I'm getting ready to do the first front and rear diff's and transfer case fluid changes in my '14 1500. It's the Express model with the 5.7 V8, 8HP70 8 sp trans, the BW44-45 transfer case with conventional differentials front and rear. Can anyone offer any insight as to why when the dealer looked up my vehicle's VIN it called for special frnt diff fluid, Mopar #68083381AA. At $56 a liter I have a hard time believing that there is something so unique about this frnt diff that it requires this special gear oil. As the bottle states, it's for a ZF electronic limited slip diff assembly (ZF-ELSD). But to my knowledge the build sheet says the diffs are conventional and I've never heard of an ELSD in the front diff. Thanks.

yeah, crazy expensive was my thoughts but searched extensively on the internet for justification to use something else and not much out there about this fluid and any safe alternative. I have the lifetime warranty on this vehicle and don't want to jeopardize it by not using factory spec'd fluids or a verified alternative. the dealer stated my frnt diff requires 1.1 qrts which this bottle is a full liter (1.06 qrts). hoping there's a Ram mechanic on this forum that could shed some light on this mystery. Thanks.

question for anyone that might know, I'm going to be doing my front and rear diff fluid changes In my 2014 1500 with the anti slip rear. I'm using amsoil severe gear oils as Ive always used amsoil and love them. also I cant get redline anywhere in my state. amsoil says it has the additives for LSD rear ends but if I experience chatter or slip, add the their non slip additive. I ordered some of that additive with the fluids. my question, is there any harm in just adding some of the anti slip additive right off the bat? I don't really want to chance any slip or chatter. I'm doing my truck and my wifes tuck (same exact truck) at the same time and was going to add half of the bottle to each rear diff.

Imo Sir , I'd just use the Amsoil without the additive in the rear end then go to a paved parking lot and do several full wheel lock turns right and left with your window down and no radio , if you hear chatter then go home and add the additive and repeat the above process ....

Not sure if the extra additive would have negative results , but if Amsoil says it has it already I wouldn't add any unless needed .

Remember you won't get 100% of the old oil & additives out so you're already starting with a bit of additives.

Redline said they had it already as well , mine has not chattered and I've got about 25k on the RL , if Amsoil says they have it I'd say you'll be good . Wouldn't hurt to have the anti-slip additive on hand though [emoji6]

If you haven't done so already check out my Original Post #1 here

I can't speak for the Amsoil with the additive but I've used Redline several times over the years and I know others that have had my same results with the Redline gear oil .

Thanks Nick , glad to see you on this thread as well Sir !!
