Filter direction is important for some filter types that don't have an edge all the way around them. Most have a defined edge only on two sides and open pleats on the other two. You want the airflow to expand the outside pleat against the housing. If reversed the airflow can colapse the pleat and bypass the filter. Think of an umbrella in the wind...you want it to catch the wind.

hey guys,

Looking at the pics it doesn't even appear as though there is a seal created for the filter to be effective. has somone used THIS method and can confirm that the filter in in line with air flow and sealed in? Where did the air go previous ti install and whats that white "hood" that sits right above the filter housing in the 3rd picture down in the page 1 post?

$13.65 from my dealer for the door

i did the mod.
its not closed in. the air barely flows thru the filter since it isnt closed in (hence the hood you see in the pic).

and i paid $17 for my door.:Grenade:

Two dealers in C.S. One 13.65. one 17.85. Anyways has anyone figured out a way to seal it up then, because I can't see how this mod helps "filter" air if the housing is opened up.

dont know what IDU means, but trust me, the air flow doesnt even go thru the filter with the setup under there.
look at the pic, it isnt even a closed system.

and the door closes off where the filter goes, not above it where the outer vent is...

The ram once hole is cut is exact same as 2010 Journey and it does not need to be air tight just pushes most of the air through the filter works great.

i will take my filter out this weekend and see if anything is passing thru it, but for me, it wasnt worth it.
$17 for door
$10 for filter
20min to cut and trim that opening for the door

meh... more air bypasses the filter than goes thru it.

The white hood you see is the recirculation door. So its an air input to the system. It moves so that air can come from outside the cab (the cowl) or from inside the cab (recirc).

The blower motor is below the filter and sucks the air through the filter.

See the arrows on the door, the air flow is down through the filter.

It works great I just changed my filter and it was dirty so it is doing the job. Like I said before it is the same design as other Dodges and same filter. I bought my filters from a vendor on here Rock Auto and they have best deals on them I have seen.

More Information for ATP TA4

They will also give you a Ram Forum discount which I forgot to use. Great filter great price. Great mod and it was easy and cheap to do.

It does seal

Hi everyone,

Just did the cabin air filter modification to my 2012 1500. After reading the posts on the filter not sealing, I figured the easy way to tell was to put the filter in and look up with the blower motor removed. If you do that you will see that it is sealed all the way around (which kind of surprises me with the way it is stuck in there). Also a tip that I haven't seen for cutting out the filter opening. Using the utility razor knife seemed to work best. To cut it, start with a really light scribe line, just guiding the knife without much pressure, and follow the small steps that are just above and below the main molding indent for the filter cutout. That way you can get a good straight line. Keep going over it, without a lot of pressure, and after a dozen strokes or so, it will cut through. If you put a lot of pressure on it, it is really hard to keep the line straight. Just my observations, and hope it helps someone.

This method worked great for me. Took me about 5 minutes from opening my truck door to replacing the glove box. SHARP box knife worked great. On mine there was a small outline (small raised edge) where the filter cut-out should have been, so I just ran my knife along that for a nice straight cut.
