Why were you pulling it backwards? Just slap the t-case in netrual, and put it in gear.

Planning on towing my Jeep to Katemcy Rocks memorial day weekend this year for a few days camping/rock crawling.
Just in case I break something ;)
I've been lucky and been able to make it home from every crawling trip so far with this thing over the last 4 years.

just a few miles east of Abilene
One of the Jeep guys is getting married there that weekend so there will be a BUNCH of JKs there.

We usually go at least every memorial day weekend for my birthday anyway.

Okay I don't have a pic but I towed a 1990 Ramcharger 4x4 with 318 and a Meyer Snow plow. The trailer I used was a tandem with its own brakes that I controlled using the Factory Integrated Trailer Brake that I wired in on my '09.. It was fun and the Ram handled it very well with my 4.56 gears. Trailer brakes make it so easy on the truck it is great. I towed the load from Wadena, MN to Fargo, ND then to a city near Minot, ND about 7 hours and 400 miles of "testing."

You really should not tow anything with drive wheels touching neutral or not. If you disconnect drive shaft then its okay but in neutral and drive shaft(s) hooked up it can still cause damage to the vehicle because pump is not running when vehicle is not.

I tow my boat most weekends in the summer. It's approximately 5,200 Lbs plus trailer at 1,700 Lbs. A total of close to 7,000 lbs. It tows easily with the trailer serge brakes. I also tow my Buick powered Corvette to the track at close to 4,000 Lbs. with my tow dolly. Even though it's lighter, it doesn't tow as easily as the boat. (no brakes) The truck is usually loaded with stuff when I'm boating or going to the track making it a heavier load.
I usually need to put it into 4 x 4 to pull the boat out of the water to stop wheel spin. (no LSD)
Ram 1500 5.7 w/ 3.55 gears.

Me and my dad run a tent rental company. We have a double axle trailer which fully loaded, probably weighs 7,000-8,000lbs. Pulled it twice with my Ram last Fall, doesn't go long distances.

My dad owns a 2011 GMC Sierra 2500HD (Owned a 2009 Sierra 2500HD before, and every odd year before that) that we normally use to haul it.

My Ram accelerated and braked much better then my dads truck does with the trailer. The only thing my dads truck has over mine is that it doesn't bounce around as much. I'm sure it's due to my coil spring in the back, but above 40 mph, that trailer was bouncing a good bit with my Ram.

I know I posted this somewhere else in the site, but, this photo fits here pretty well.

Boat is 10,500lbs, trailer is about 2,000lbs for a grand total of roughly 12,500 lbs. This was taken by my mother at their house, about 220 miles from mine when I brought it for winter storage.

Not a half ton, but lighter yet and did the job just fine. Sorta.
