I had my doors painted 5 months ago and new badges put on. If I remove the badges now, what are the odds the paint comes off with them?

I would hope that the badges were not put on until after the clear coat dried.

He actually didn't put them on correctly so had to redo them. Idk how he took them off, but he did it spot free. So I assume I should be fine but not sure I should risk it yet

You should be fine, as long as you're careful when removing them.

Worst case scenario...it looks like crap underneath them and you have to re-apply them.

Worst case scenario is it looks bad and I need to use Adams polish to fix it

This is very informative and I plan to debadge but I have a question I'm trying to get answered. I have black '13 express and I have had it one year now. It has been mostly outside for the past year, garage kept for about a month. Will I have faded paint issues? Will the paint under the logos be a darker black??

It may be slightly darker, but nothing a little polishing on the rest of the paint won't even out.

If it was 10 years old and had 200k miles, then I'd be a little more concerned. ;)

Mine took WAY longer than the hour that everyone else is saying it took. But well worth it.

Just got my truck 3 days ago and have been reading this info on debadging and tried the fishing line thing, which worked to remove the plastic lettering, but the amount of adhesive left behind was ridiculous. I used a plastic puddy knife and gently removed what I could, then used Goo Gone for the rest, but it still took a lot of time and elbow grease. I am only posting because AFTER I did the RAM lettering, I had to do the "1500" part and went to look for the 3M stuff that everyone is talking about (couldn't find it) and the eraser wheel (found it, but didn't use it). What I did on the 1500 took way less time and worked a lot better, so I thought I would post.

I used the fishing line to remove the letters, then sprayed on some Turtle Wax Label and Sticker Remover (didn't run as bad as the Goo Gone) that I got from Walmart for like $5, let it sit for 2-3 minutes, and then it almost wiped right off with very little effort. No heat gun (I was afraid that I woudl overdo it and bubble the paint) and no 5-10 minutes of scrubbing and sweating. No eraser wheel either, taking that back for credit. Anyway, the Turtle Wax stuff worked great, better than expected. Good luck.

Fishing line, pull off, goo gone, and some Meguiars Ultimate Quick Wax. B-E-A-U-tiful. It wouldn't have took me long, but I got carried away and spray waxed the whole truck. :roflsquared:

How about the dumb sticker letters that dealers put on with their name and location? My dealer put their name on the tailgate with just a sticker. I don't think I could get any fishing line behind it to take it off. I'm guessing a hair dryer to heat it up and then try and peel it off?

De-Badged Yesterday

I finally got brave enough to take on the task. To my eyes, the Laramie LongHorn badge on each side was way to big and gaudy. Fishing line and pull method worked fine, but since the badge was so large, it took a lot of time to work my way through the adhesive tape. Pulling the tape off afterwards was a piece of cake ... the easiest part of the job. The few remaining specs of adhesive I removed with Turtle Wax sticker remover. No problem. Final result was excellent!

Kinda reviving this thread a bit. I used a plastic "razor" blade to remove the dealership stickers. They were vinyl stickers. The 90+ degree Texas sun warmed it up enough then followed with a micro-cloth and some alcohol. Follow with some soap and water and wax if desired. :)

I am going to probably remove the "RAM 1500" from the doors and leave the HEMI badge.

^^^. What was the stuff in the bottle that you were squirting onto the rag please ? Mine have been on since 2010 and just doing the one was a mother, not to mention I'm sick of trying to get that residue off.

Goo gone. I wanted to use the 3m stuff but I had this and it worked fine.

I just finished removing the chrome billboards from the doors of my 2012i. I used fishing line, a plastic putty knife and Goo Gone. Took about an hour to do both sides.
