Well guys... goodbye 14 CC and hello 18 CC!

I'd be interested to know what the "insane rebates" were. I was checking around here just yesterday and found nothing much that hasn't been in place for months. Somewhere around 3-4K, at least for the heavy duty '18 models.

    How's This Deal?

I can understand why. Dillon was in the running right up until the last minute, and in a big way, when I was shopping around. In the end their price was indeed lower than anyone else, but by the time I calculated the cost of going to pick up the truck in Idaho (from Colorado) in the middle...

    Tranny downgrade button

From the manual: There's quite a bit more detail than that in the manual. That cut and paste is from page 216 in the 2018 edition. The 2017 version may have different page numbers, I don't know, but it's in there for sure.

    owner-accessible settings vs. dealer-accessible settings

Still waiting for delivery of our new truck - maybe sometime this week according to the status reports. Woohoo! What I want to find out is what adjustments dealer service departments can make to vehicle settings that owners cannot normally access, and which won't appear in the Owner's Manual...

    Electrical question....

That was both helpful and encouraging. It would be a nightmare if there was not at least substantial agreement on how to wire up a 7-way trailer harness. A uniformly accepted scheme for numbering the pins would be an advantage for sure, but so long as the positioning of the connections remains...

    Electrical question....

The only problems with unplugging (this is not a towed camper, it's a slide-in bed camper) are that a)the plug is not the easiest thing to reach when the camper is fully loaded and tied down, and b) forgetting to plug it back in gives you no turn signals or brake lights. An ignition-actuated...

    Electrical question....

Oh boy. Our new truck is still on a train somewhere between here and Saltillo, so I can't go confirm it yet, but according to the pinout diagrams I've found on the internet, on the 7-way it goes like this. pin 1 - ground pin 2 - trailer brakes pin 3 - running lights pin 4 - battery charge...

    Electrical question....

Yeah. I've been overthinking this. It really is that simple. Some trucks disconnect the hot wire (pin 4) when they're not running, and some don't. Rams probably don't is what i'm hearing. Easy enough to check, just as you say. And if pin 4 stays hot, I'll have to make other arrangements...

    Electrical question....

Now that's a good thought. It would make good design sense for the truck to turn off all non-essential battery loading automatically after a set time, be it lights left on or a drain via the trailer harness or anything else. And your plan to establish if that's happening or not using...

    Electrical question....

I'll be happy to do that if necessary, but that brings up the question of the best way, and the safest way, to do it. On our 2000 Tundra which we used to use for a small camper, I put an ignition actuated solenoid which physically disconnected the camper electrics from the vehicle electrics...

    Electrical question....

Seems like "towing and hauling" might be the right forum for this question, but I'm not sure.... OK, so if I connect a camper trailer (or a slide-in camper for that matter) to the truck ( 2018 3500 Tradesman 6.4) via the 7-pin plug in the truck's trailer wiring harness - then I'll get the...

    Sugared Gas Tank

Yeah, it's a tough one. Around here we had a thing where my closest neighbor's mailbox was almost destroyed (all the boxes for the neighborhood are together on the County Road - USPS doesn't do "door to door" around here). He's an artist and a sculptor and the mailbox was made to look like a...

    Sugared Gas Tank

But someone did, didn't they, and not only that, they made a special trip of at least a mile to do it. I live in the mountains too, in a very small community where people know each other and wave at each other when driving by, so I do understand that dynamic. From your description, especially...

    Sugared Gas Tank

People who sugar gas tanks have to plan ahead—nobody walks around with a bag of sugar "just in case"—and random vandals who decide to equip themselves with bags of sugar usually go on a "spree" with multiple targets. From the data available in this post, it fits the profile of personal...

    new truck order delivery time

Ordered a 3500 CC 6.4 Tradesman on Oct 31st. It was built by 11/17 and was in status KZM (first rail departure from Saltillo) as of this past Monday. ETA in western Colorado is 12/4 - 12/10 btw, if you use the "live chat" feature on this website, and give the last 8 numbers of your VIN, they...
