I did the same, way too much money.
I even looked at the "hotspot" option on my truck, but for the price they wanted and it was only 3G....i just laughed.
It is my understanding that for the Alpine folks, it replaces the amp. Then you can run your own equipment and it still is able to direct the signal where it should go (door chimes, NAV, and BT calling)
I have the OEM sub in a non-Alpine system.
What you will need:
OEM sub and box (or sub of your choosing)
Amp
LOC or DSP
Amp wiring kit for power.
Like stated above, if your looking to bring the rain with the OEM sub, it is not happening. But it does fill in nicely.
I agree with the custom box vs the JL. But alot of guys run the NetAudio or Foxbox and seemed to be very happy with it, and probably did not spend $999 for the setup. But if the JL retains the fold out floor, then that might be a plus for the OP.
