On long highway runs keep it under 70 and you will see lots of MPGS! This is on the 8-speed

Too many factors and their combinations play in the avg. mpg.; engine size, truck size, mods, driving patterns, speed, weather conditions and so much more. One thing I have noticed is what I call the "sweet speed", which is around the 55-60 mpg range experienced in my 4.7L and 5.7L, these trucks do well. Here is a screenshot of me getting 21mpg in a 5.7 with 6" lift, windshield mounted light bar and roof racks on a drive from the start of 7 mile bridge to key west in that sweet speed range. If hand calculated, it was probably 19mpg. The reality with my daily driving is the computer averaging 15mpg, which is really 14mpg after hand calculating. Roughly 80% freeway. However, half my drive on the freeway is at 75-80 mph and frequent 15 mph winds coming directly at me which I get about 8-10 mpg. Then another half of the route in the sweet speed range giving me about 18mpg or so. Point being, if my daily drive consisted only of that drive in the FL keys to get to work and back, I would be telling you I get around 20 mpg in a lifted truck with a 5.7. But, I get 14 and everything I mentioned plays a role in that outcome.

I agree, but also with my 6 spd, 4x4, CC, long box and 3.92 gears. If I can keep her @ 70mph (2’000 RPM’s) I can usually average 20 mpg interstate.

I always find interesting that Motor Trend gets 17.3 highway mpg in their 8 speed 5.7. But hey, 21 back and forth to work, no problem. Riiiiight!

With a motorcycle on back, at 70 mph, mine does about 17 hand calculated. If I slow down and catch a tailwind, it can get 20. But that is a rare occurrence

In Colorado. Wyoming, and Utah. For what ever reason, it did much better than here in humid Indiana.

I average 19-21+ on runs down the interstate here if I stay 70 or under and on cruise control. I get 16-17 around town. I suppose it does help that its pretty flat around here. Now if I kick it up to the speed limit of 80 it all changes...lol

I'm getting about 21 mpg on my 2011, but that's imperial gallons. Works out to closer to 17 us gallons. I'm thinking the manufacturers use whatever gallon is bigger to post their fuel economy.

If you keep your speeds down, it is very possible. Mine is not setup for MPG at all (3.92 gears, oversized A/T tires, etc.), but I kept it below 70 once due to construction zones on a long trip, mostly 55-65, and I even got 20 average.

I️ have a 2016 Longhorn 4x4 Hemi with 3.92 gears, 8 speed. Best I️ have ever done is 21.5 mpg going to PA from NC. About 575 miles. One thing to one: My calculations were done by hand with me recording the miles and Gallons at the pump. The MPG indicator in my truck and the 2014 I️ had are off by 1.5 mpg consistently. Oh yeah. They are off on the high side. So real mileage is about 1.5 mpg less than what the gauge indicates. Not sure why it is so hard for FCA to calculate mileage but they suck at it. Around town my mileage is usually 15-16 MPG. I️ drive a mix of in town and highway and usually average around 17 or so doing that.

Now that the temps have fallen below freezing, here in Indiana, I'll be lucky to see 17.

I check mpg because it is a good indicator of the health of the truck.

I paid cash for my truck. If you're making payments, and getting that mythical 21, I'm still getting by cheaper.

I hear that, with winter here I have to remote start and warm it up before I put my butt in it. That really screws with mileage readings.:rotflmao:

On long highway runs now I tend to set Cruise at Speed Limit +5 MPH (seems a good speed to keep LEO's happy yet still get where I'm going).

I also have the OE Air Ride which lowers the truck at highway speeds, so am wondering if that actually helps with mileage at all? I can hit 25-26 MPG easily on long flat runs.

I got 16 and 21 in my 2013 Big Horn Hemi with the 3.21 diff. My 2017 Laramie Longhorn Hemi with the same gear hasn't been on a trip yet, but I expect similar results.

I think the 3.21 rear gear is the secret. That, and keeping the gas pedal in a position that allows the engine to go into 4 cylinder mode at highway speeds.

Going 75 MPH I've only achieved 21 MPG max. 5.7 V8 Crew Cab, 8 Speed, 2WD, 3.21 gears, tires (Goodyear SRA) at 40 PSI. I have running boards and a cargo box. I live in Florida, so very little incline changes.

If I take back roads going 55-60 MPH, my mileage goes up to about 25-26 MPG.

City driving stays right around the EPA estimate of 15.

I have 4wd, otherwise same as yours, get same mileage as well. Sometimes I get 22 keeping at speed limit on Utah freeways, except where it is 80 mph, then I stick to 75 in the slow lane .

'14, 5.7 Hemi, 8-speed, 19/25 mpg. When speed limit is 50 or above, I drive 4mph under. Makes a huge difference. Probably not a useful answer for most folks. :)

2016 Laramie . 321 axle 8 speed 4x4 22.7 cruise on freeway speed Portland Oregon Arlington Washington. Town driving 15 to 17 running 89 oct. runs fine. Winter studs on mileage dropped to 14 in town and 20 hwy. Overall truck does what I expected when I bought her.
