Hi!
I bought a OBDLink LX bluetooth dongle to check the engine.
The dongel works well, reads/clears all engine codes and installation was simple and fast!

Unfortunately i can't find android software who is able to read more than the engine codes (ABS/Transmission/whatelse)
Their OBDLink app, the Torque Lite app, Diagnostiker app do only read engine codes

It seems that OBDLink will may make in the future a Chrysler Add-on (+74.95$) to their 129$ ScanXL software to be able to read enhanced codes.
So basically it will cost me 129$+74.95$+45$ for the dongle to be able to see more than engine codes ...

Thanks!
Chris

If after all that, would it be able to read any manufacturer specific (not just generic) codes?

So, you'd have ~ $250 in a scanner that would read trans/abs (and airbag?) codes. IDK, sounds about right. Sure cheaper is better and there's always someone who's going to come up with something cheaper. You can buy snap-on scanners which are older for $400 and up which will give you mfgr specific codes.

A good scanner isn't going to take away from doing basic troubleshooting which you can do with basic meters and a test light. I've had scanners send me down wasted time paths chasing dead ends due to something that was a basic troubleshooting issue I overlooked (like bad grounding) because I was relying on the tool. On the one hand vehicles have become so complex these days, if a meter can help zero in on an item, that saves time. Again, OTOH, sometimes it's better to type the problem/symptoms into a search tool(google) and get feedback on people who've had the same problems. Youtube is even better. Because sometimes things you wouldn't think that are related can cause a problem you're seeing. I guess what I'm suggesting in a round-about way is maybe you're on the right path and using all the resources including basic meters and the internet are a good idea.

Autoengenuity offers adapters and software that run on PCs that pick up these codes and interpreting them. There is scansnap too I think, probably others. The disadvantage is you have to deal with quirky PCs and quirky hardware and, last I checked, north of $500. There are different levels of enhanced codes, so be sure to read the details of whats readable. Some advertise enhanced capability but that only includes abs, airbag, and some transmission. Just saying that $250 software and adapter may not suffice for you.

i agree with you and i saw a lot of wrong informations provided by OBD system.
Just a few weeks ago defective (first left then right rear wheel) abs wheel speed sensors triggered a faulty O2 sensor heater.
I installed new left wheel sensor and problems went away, 2 weeks later right wheel sensor went bad and O2 sensor heater problem showed up again.
I installed again another new wheel speed sensor, abs work fine but O2 Sensor heater problem persisted. I bought a new sensor and as soon i bought it
O2 Sensor Heater problem went away.
But usually it is the first step to check the problem the code(s) are indicating, often they are right, if not, wll tester and happy gremlin hunting ...

@ColdCase
I have also a Innova 3130c scanner and he can read the ABS system, but not transmission and i was not checking the possibilies of the OBDLink, my fault.
At this point i guess i will stay with the Intova and the OBDLink as i don't want to pay even more for a new software / device.
