I recently purchased a 7-way round (rv) connector for my truck. I had existing flat 4-way connector for my smaller trailers but now picking up a larger tandem axle with brakes and need to purchase and install the brake module.

I'm going with a basic digital model for around $120, however this would be my first attempt in doing so. I would like to learn how to install one on my vehicle and connect it to the 7 way connector which I installed today by removing the square cover on the left of the license plate, plugged in my flat 4 to the back of the unit and it had a few other lead wires which I assume will need to be connected tot he brake module.

Am I over thinking this procedure or is it relatively easy to install a brake module, would it be worth paying the local trailer shop?
I'm mechanically inclined and don't see how this could be that difficult.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

sure man, post up some photos

---- I don't need one now as I dont tow anything requiring trailer brakes (YET), jut a basic boat and utility trailer from time to time. but If I ever do need to tow a race car in an enclosed trailer, I will need a setup like you have.

I just saw it some trucks are just buy a plug some require a complete wiring kit set up to the battery. there is a kit that has the wiring for that. I wired up a st gas with it cause no factory set up. it wasn't hard just took a while. my cummins was just hook up 4 wires to the controller.

OP did your truck have the blue connector under the dash or did you tap into the lines for it. But for those interested in going from 4 to 7. Picked this up from eBay. And it’s by far the easiest thing I’ve ever done to my truck. I am not affiliated with the seller, and I didn’t want to pay 350 at the dealer either
