I got a "perform Service" message a few days ago. It is different than the "Oil Change Required" message. I tried the throttle pedal reset and it did not work. Manual says its a reminder to have my DPF serviced. Is this something I can reset in the truck or with a high quality scan tool?

Did you have the DPF system serviced recently?

No I didn't. The truck runs fine with no MIL or any other indicators.

Found this on the interwebs. It worked.

PERFORM SERVICE INDICATOR - RESET
Unless reset the “Perform Service” message will display on the EVIC each time you turn the ignition switch to the ON/RUN position to indicate a emission maintenance is required. To reset the “Perform Service” indicator system (after performing the scheduled maintenance) refer to the following procedure:

1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (Do not start engine).
2. Press and release the brake pedal two times.
3. Fully depress the accelerator pedal slowly two times within 10 seconds.
4. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF/LOCK position.
NOTE: If the indicator message illumination when you start the vehicle, the “Perform Service” indicator did not reset. If necessary repeat this procedure

I replaced my CCV filter today but I'll be damned if I can get the Perform Service light to extinguish. I've tried the above reset procedure about 20 times now.

Crankcase filter...... usually comes on at about every 70K Miles. Very easy to do in your own driveway

It’s not the dpf filter..... you would get a different message or check engine light for dpf. It’s the crankcase filter. It comes on at about every 70K Miles doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing just that it needs to be changed. Then you can reset it with the pedal reset method

The member you responded this to has a 2014 6.7 Cummins. On page 332 of the 2014 ram diesel supplement, it explains that the “perform service” message is to replace the CCV filter. Page 341 says to perform this service every 67,500 miles. The correct reset procedure for the message is in the post above.

2008-2012 pre DEF 6.7 Cummins rams also required cleaning of the EGR cooler along with the CCV filter change.

Ya I guess what the hell do I know hey? Just been a Chrysler tech for the past 10 years. Let’s hope he didn’t listen to you.

It’s not the DPF filter. “PERFORM SERVICE” is for the crankcase filter. If it was the DPF there would be a different message saying exhaust filter full see dealer as well as a CEL. To reset it you press the brake pedal twice then gas pedal two times.

This reset procedure is all over the internet, not just here.

I give up. I've tried it a few more times, the message remains. I've emailed my service rep at the dealer where I bought it.

I also have a 2014 6.7 Cummins and had the perform service notice show up at about 67,500 miles. After changing the CCV filter out, I attempted to clear the code with no luck following the numerous break peddle/accelerator peddle instructions I found.

My son, a diesel mechanic by trade, cleared the code his first try. Here is what he did:

Open driver's door and keep it open during the entire sequence.... TOTAL time for the following sequence is 10 seconds...

Turn key to on...push break peddle twice fast, then push accelerator peddle twice fast.. and turn key to off.... Must be accomplished in under 10 seconds total time.

Turn key on and check the message center and the code should be gone. Start truck and you should not see the code any more.

Walla...Fixed!

In June 2020 I took my 2012 3500 to the dealer to get my last recall performed. They noticed the Perform Service message. I had 70,000 miles on it. They asked, and I authorized them to, well, perform service. That cost $400 in parts and $1,280 in labor. I read in the manual that the message will come back in 67,500 miles. The dealer said that the work is very time consuming.

First question: Is it really that big of a job?
Second question: What happens if I just reset the indicator and never perform the service?

The perform service light is for changing the crankcase filter. It’s a very easy job.

What exactly did they do?
