2013 v6 8spd and i get 24mpg all day long on hwy/cty combo...
the 8spd is amazing for gas mileage!
Well I have the 6cyl 4x4 on 35s I get 18 around town if I pay attention on road trips to Vegas from Socal I can get 24Hey all, drove 224.5 miles yesterday up to a distant town to pick up some parts and back. Nearly all hwy miles, mostly interstate-style, other than some through-town miles, some stop signs, etc. No cargo. I got right at 17.0 mpg. (5.7 Hemi, 6 spd, 4x4, 3.55 gearing, not a lot of options, tires properly inflated) which is about what I got the last time I checked it. It runs fine and great AFAIK. On this run it was not in ECO mode all that much due to terrain/winds, or whatever. Sometimes it was, other times not. Speed was generally 68-73 mph.
My old reg cab 89 GMC 4x4 with all the options and 5.7 throttle-body, 4-spd, similar gearing, original dual-bed bead-style catalytic converter and about 275k mi ....gets almost the same or a scootch better! Every time I've checked it in the past for 'average' mileage it was around 16.5 and I've gotten fairly high on straight interstate driving especially if I 'draft' a semi! But overall, most of my driving is hwy.
I was going to rant about the technology not being very effective, but I just went out and looked at the doors and it appears the dodge is about 1000 lbs heavier (6600 lbs). Didn't realize there was that much weight difference (if I'm reading the stickers right). There's a lot greater use of thinner metal, plastics and aluminum than my GMC, but OTOH, trucks in general have increased about 15% larger in size too over the years!!. And sure the Dodge has about 200 more hp. I was driving like an old lady to see if I could get greater MPG.
How are you guys getting 22mpg? Are they 2wd trucks with 6 cyl/8spd getting that? Can you get greater with a 5.7 4x4 6 spd?
At the end of the day I need a tk for the kind of work I do and I'm really happy with this tk. I'm surprised mpg on a flat interstate hwy isn't greater.

Which setting do you keep the commander on? Do you keep the eco mode on the truck off? And what engine/tranny do you have?

I have a ram r/t I used to get 22-24 but at 40k miles best I can get us 17-18 idk why but it totally ****** me off how do I get the same mpg from an 8speed then I did with my 5speed quad cab ??
I think a lot of it has to do with your fuel.
Over the last few years ethanol content has steadily increased, which is a big fuel mileage killer.
Virtually all gas stations now have a fairly significant percentage of ethanol in their fuel, whereas even 5 years ago there were many ethanol-free stations out there.
It`s quite honestly ridiculous
Shell premium (92 octane) is the only fuel I know (as of last year) that has no ethanol content. However given some of my fuel mileage calc`s as of late, I`m beginning to wonder if they haven`t slipped some in under the radar.
Their is a ethanol free gas by my house but last time I tried ethanol free gas it sucked ****
