Some folks do an entire flush by removing the hose and pouring in fresh fluid while in drive , E brake on and wheels chalked ( or someone else at the wheel ) until fresh clean fluid comes out . This is not a bad idea , but me personally ...I have the Mag-Hyteck with a drain plug , I just pan drain approx 8.5qts for me drive about a thousand miles then pan drain again . This method works for me .

Hope this helps!

I use this same method and it works great. It's also a lot easier than messing around with the cooler lines and there's no chance of creating a leak at the cooler line connections

Great write up and lots of information on here from multiple people, its interesting seeing the different methods used.

I do have 2 question, how do I identify which 6 speed transmission I have? Also is one better than the other?

@Luis ,
What year is your Ram ?

To my knowledge all 2013- 2018 1500 6 speed xsmn's are all the 65RFE .

I'm thinking your wanting to know which 4x4 transferase case you have ?
If so then it's marked on the xsfer case as either the BW 44-44 or the 44-45 on a bar code sticker , also on your 4x4 shifter dial they have different settings .
I think the 44-44 has the 4wd- auto position and the 44-45 ( the good one Imo ) does not .

Let us know here what positions are on your 4x4 selector dial .

Hope this helps .

The other 6-speed transmission is the 68RFE for the Ram 2500/3500

Yep , I stated "1500" .
This latest Forum format on Tapatalk doesn't show truck year , type or eng type anymore ?? Frustrating because you can't look at someone's profile to see what they are driving ...I hope this is a glitch and not intentionally modified . If it was intentional then it was done by someone who doesn't spend any time on the Ram Forum...

Yeah editing older posts isn't working on both Tapatalk or a PC. I messaged Smiley about it and he's looking into it.

Then I believe you have the 5 speed 545RFE if you have a 1500.

Trying to learn as much as possible about my Ram, is it not a 4th Gen 6 speed?

@Luis ,

2009 + Rams are considered 4th Generation ;however , they do not all have the same xsmn's ...
I believe your 2011 1500 would have the 5 speed 545RFE xsmn ...
I suggest getting your build sheet from the above link provided by crackerjack , this will list all OEM items as the truck left the factory , if I remember correctly you can request a paper copy to be sent to you .
