As the title says I'm interested in folks opinions on car seats that they use in their 4th Generation quad cab trucks. I'm expecting my first child in April and I need some recommendations for what fits and works in a quad cab truck.

Preferably I'd like one that will be a one time purchase (converts rear to forward facing) but I understand if that's asking too much of my setup and the offerings of car seats. My pressing concern is a rear facing car seat that fits well in my 2014 Quad Cab for my newborn son on the way.

Pictures and model numbers would help me greatly...thanks in advance!

Edit: trading in my truck for a crew cab is not an option for the next 15 years or so.

I have a Quad Cab with a booster seat for my 6 year old and a front facing car seat for my 3 year old. Enough room for my family of 4.

I have been in a Quad Cab with a rear facing car seat and it’s was a little tight. You can make it work. If you have front fold down center console you could possibly put the car seat in the middle rear, although I don’t know about safety with that.

Best of luck with your seating arrangements!

Thanks, I do have the front center seat and think a rear facing seat in the middle could be ideal. I'm 6'2" so the boy won't be behind me!

I believe the center of the rear seat is the safest position, due to the concerns of side impact collisions. That being said, my son is on the passenger side. Mainly due to having to crawl into the rear seat to put him in. My wife is short, so it makes it makes it hard for her to put him in the seat.

That being said, I don't have a quad cab, so I can't really help you out. We use a Chicco Keyfit 30 since he was born, but we're in the process of switching to a convertible seat. I just bought a Safety 1st Alpha Omega Elite to use in my truck. Still trying to find something that my wife can use easily.

I had a 13 QC for about 6 months with my 1st kid. The Graco My Ride 65 i think it was fit perfectly. The issue with the QC center is it's not very long so you want to make sure the base doesn't have a lot of overhang.

I used the Graco system with a shell that goes in the back seat and a carrier that snaps into it. I had another base in our Dodge Nitro and a stroller that also accepted the carrier. Works great for newborns up to about one and a half years old.
It is a lot easier to load the child up while in the house or some other shelter when the weather is bad, Snap the kid and the seat into the truck and off you go. Teke the carrier and kid out and snap into the stroller. I am in my 60s and raising a granddaughter who I have now adopted. The system is easier than all the stuff I raised my kid with. She is now almost four and in a different, front facing car seat.
I know you want to save money but I have been through two seats so far and soon to be in a booster. Convenience and ease costs money. Seats also have expiration dates on them as the ultraviolet light degrades the plastic so my carrier and mount both expired just about the time she was in a new seat anyway.

Two questions...

Was this in a quad cab?...and if so do you have model names/numbers for the seats you used?

I have a 2015 QC and I also have 3 kids all in some sort of child safety apparatus. The 8 year old is a basic high back booster as is the 6 year old. The 3 year old is in a front facing convertible seat. Is very tight in the rear but it works. I'm 6'0" so the 3 year old sits behind me, the other two can buckle themselves in. We have a Dodge Grand Caravan for the long trips (3 kids hate touching each other), but we use the truck a lot on the weekends for errands and shorter day trips. I can add models numbers of the seats later, but none are currently rear facing, but you shouldn't have a problem with them being in the middle which is where I believe they are supposed to be, but I have a firefighter friend who is a certified child seat installer and he has is kid in a rear facing behind the passenger seat.

We had a similar set up for all three of ours. Once they got out of the carrier with base, we invested in convertible seats that go all the way to 100lbs. You should have no problem with this set up in a QC. I had a Kia Rio with our first born and the back seats in that car are smaller and narrower than the QC, and they fit just fine.

We have the same type of set up, only made by Chicco (Kiko), instead. It was great for a newborn. We actually are still using it for my wife's Durango and the grandparents to use (we bought them each a base for their vehicles). It fit just fine in my truck, wife's Durango, Grandma's Explorer, Grandma's Land Rover LR2 (compact SUV).
