I had mine done twice within 70k miles, and if the dealer doesn't do a good job from beginning, they'll keep warping and breaking.

The last time dealer was fixing mine, they messed up the head, and I got cylinder misfire code the same day I picked it up after the manifold leak repair. Truck spend 5 weeks at the dealership and they ended up replacing the entire right head... I described it in my other post on cylinder misfire.

I guess the manifolds and head needs to be machined to make sure it's all smooth before they screw it all together, otherwise if they just screw it back together, and the surface is warped then it'll break very quickly once again. Try to tell this to your service advisor...

My dealership can barely handle a tire rotation so this should inevitably be fun when it happens.

This just happened with my truck in September, 28,000 miles. It will be 3 years old in January. 2 studs were broke on the passenger side of the manifold. As soon as I called my dealer, and told them the issue, they knew what the problem was. One day fine, next day, left for work, it was ticking like a *******. My truck came with a 5 yr 100,00 mile warranty, so hopefully I'm ok for awhile.

I have a 2013 RAM, I had 4 broken bolts on Passanger side and just about as many on the right. I was not going to chance it happening again so I went the shorty header route with aftermarket bolts from moes performance.

Does anyone have an idea how much $$ and time this repair takes? I have the lifetime warranty but when a given repair exceeds the value of the truck it's over. I'm just wondering is this a $1000 fix or a $5000 fix? Thanks!

I'm guessing that it would cost $1-2k. However, there's a chance that if they keep fixing those, eventually they'll screw up the head (if they have to drill out bolts multiple times), so then replacing the head will be more costly. That's what happened to my 2013 70k miles truck. After 2nd manifold bolts repair, they had to replace the right head as it broke after all the drilling out of the bolts.

90,000 miles and mine went. Dealer actually had to replace both heads. Took forever but the service manager made it right for me!

This is what makes me wonder, It's stupid for FCA not to redesign the manifolds or step up the bolts on these trucks.
It cant be cheap for them to keep fixing this problem over and over and even worse is they are doing it multiple times on the same trucks.
Let alone they are replacing heads on trucks because of this.

Seems to me they could be using factory installed shorty headers and better bolts and it would be cheaper for them in the end.

Another thought, no redesign for this problem because its the last year for this motor ?

All goes well I will have headers on mine before next years over.

That's good that they replaced both heads. Did they also do lifters and cam on both heads while in there? I only got lifters replaced in the right head and no cam

It'll say what they did on your receipt that you got from dealership when picked up your truck. I'm just curious

I doubt it. This problem existed since 2005 because they broke on my wifes Durango. If they didn't fix it 5 years later by 2010 I think its because they don't care, fast forward to 2015 and its still not fixed, 10 years later = f it, we don't care.

Just curious, (this question is for all) exactly how does the "shorty header" resolve this issue?

From what I understand, the stock manifolds are cheap and warp, and the bolts are cheap too.. The JBA shorties flow more and are compatible with stock y -pipe and come with better bolts. I don't know if Ram actually has a fix for this problem so I went after market

I didn't want to get the cheap bolts replaced with cheap bolts again from the dealership. I HAD 4 broken on one side I know for sure and about 3 on other side.

Origionally I was just going to connect the shortys to the stock y-pipe untill I found out about the AFE y-pipe.

Looks (sounds like) my 5.7L 2013 PW just broke a couple manifold bolts off.

It appears this is only an issue on the 5.7L's, is that correct? How about the 392s?

Just got a 2016 PW with the 6.4L and would rather not have this lurking over the horizon for that truck as well.

Sorry, 6.4 in the 2500, same issue on some. Warped or cracked manifold. Broken manifold bolts. My 2018 with 4900 miles is at the dealer now.

Ughhhhh. The '13 PW just did this at 65k, and I stumbled in here looking for a fix... and hoping that it was limited to the earlier 5.7's. Crud.

Guess I will try the Shorty Header and aftermarket bolt upgrade fix on the '13 and see how that goes.

The '16 6.4L remains nice and quiet at 30k at the moment, so I shall keep my fingers crossed. Was sure wanting to keep the newer truck stock-ish.
