I have 2014 with hard Bed cover(Retrax) and 5.7 with 3.92 gear 8 speed. Run Mid grade always gets 20.5 0n highway and about 18.5 to 19 Combination. Always run 60 to 70 mph. If run up to 75 or over it drops to 17.5 on highway. My 2011 5.7 with Retrax and 3.55 gear would get 21 on Highway at 60 to 70

Ran Michelin tires on both trucks....hate the goodyears that came on both trucks....Took em off soon as I got them home replaced with Michelin and sold goodyears. I really think tires makes a little bit of difference in mpg but wow the ride and traction is awesome with Michelin.

****** Never Run Ethanol in my Trucks. Lucky we do not have it around here much....when on trips and nothing but ethanol I have ram it premium only

So I have read these over the years and never get the mileage others claim. My 09 Crew Cab got 18-18.5 Highway left lane running 75 -80. Yes I can get better if I wanted to slow down for sure. Best tank was 19.5 running 65.
Now I have a 2500 crew cab 6 speed 5.7L with the 6'7" bed. Best mileage I have gotten is 16.6 same highway same speed. I turned my back on the 1500 simply because I couldnt deal with the 8 speed tranny, and had to have the 6'7"bed.

2015 QC V6 4x2 with 3.21 SLT trim. I routinely get 22-24 MPG hand calculated. I use cruise control often and try to not get it over 70 MPH unless needed. 55-65 is the sweet spot for me on MPG.

I've usually managed to get somewhere around the sticker estimates in most of my vehicles. But then for the most part I'm a more conservative driver. For the fiirst month or so with the truck, I was playing with the Hemi, but now I've settled down some. I'm testing the PC in Eco mode to see if that'll help with MPG.

Please note that if you are using the MPG from the EVIC you are probably getting between 1 and 2 MPG less than that. Do a comparison with hand calcs over a couple of tanks on a long drive and you will see what I mean. At first I was pissed about this. But after thinking it through I can see how hard it is to measure how little gas is going into the engine on a consistent and accurate basis.

Try this: Take a gallon of water in a jug. Start walking and start spilling the water as you go trying to leave a trail from the same gallon for 22 miles! Imagine just how little water (gas) would be spilling out to have the gallon last 22 miles. Pretty amazing they even get close to measuring accurately.

I want 5 Speed to elaborate on why he dislikes the 8. I don't have one, but I have always heard it's the greatest thing ever.

Yeah the 8sp is the best transmission hands down.
Would have not bought a truck with the 6sp again.

the 8 speed is a given especially when towing heavy no gear hunting like my previous 5 speed. I have gotten 22mpg (us gallon) doing 65mph hand calculated. oh and with 3.92 gears a nice kick in the pants when you wot it

My truck only has 1600 miles on it. Laramie crew cab 6'4 bed with cover. So far on a mix of mountain driving, two lanes, and interstate I'm just shy of 21 mpg. Leaving tomorrow on a 5000 mile round trip cross country so we will see what it does. I usually drive 5-10 mph over speed limit. I will tell you this, I was getting 15.3 around town here, they recently put a station in the sells non ethanol 87. I filled my tank with it ( it was only half empty) and now I'm getting 17.1 mpg around town. I think some of the complaints I see here could be attributed to the type of gas people are putting in. I know its suppose to be up to 10% ethanol, but I have got to tell you I can really smell the alcohol in some fuels and in some it smells more like alcohol then gas!

I drove two of them and dislike all the gear hunting and downshifting, which was so off for what I was doing in one particular case (accelerating onto the highway) that it was just plain awkward. I loved my 5 speed, always in the right gear and easy to induce it to downshift if needed. I just dont like it. And, all that downshifting must lead to heat which is the killer of trannies. I like the 6 better but would prefer the 5. How much gas is it saving over my09 crew running the same speed? probably 1 mpg or so. Not worth it IMO and I am sure that tranny cost more to repair and complicated the tranny computer more as well.
Drove my 2500 about 4 hours today. 15.5 to 16.1 at 80-82mph. On a section where I ran slower, like 70 ish, it improved to 16.6mpg. Its big and heavy with 10 ply tires, heavy brakes, axles and suspension over the 1500 (and rides like **** too). It was however comparatively cheap. I was hoping to swap out the heavy springs for some Thurens but alas they dont make them for the 2wd so my hunt continues on that front. My friend riding with me has a new Chevy 2500 extended cab 4wd 6.6L and he did say he believes it rides more harsh than his which is probably true (I am not a Chevy guy regardless). I have had 3 Ram pickups the first being an 03 2500 5.7L, the 09 crew and now this 2500 5.7L

Before i bought my 2011 1500 i rented a 2017 1500 in Miami.
The rental car had a shift knob and the 8 speed tranny, the ranny was soft as silk and shifting was almost not to feel.
I wish my 2011 had a 8 speed tranny!

Exact opposite, the 5/6sps lug around in to high of a gear and burn up torque converters and od clutches.
The 8sp does just what its spose to by down shifting when throttle is applied so it does not heat up the transmission.
I put 50k on a 6sp and that thing was allways in too high of a gear and when I sold it the converter was going out just like alot of other 6sp.

My 2013 QC 5.7 outdoorsman 2wd with 3.55s on long trips averages around 25 mpg with cruise on at 60mph. Now in town, sucks up the gas and if I do 50/50 city/hwy I get around 16 mpg average. Towing is really bad, towing a 4,000 pound trailer I average 14 on long hyw trips, my 05 Durango with 3.55s all wheel drive hemi I average 16-17 towing same trailer.

My '17 Hemi 8 sp does ~20.5 ish all around I'd say. I don't have a ton of miles on it (3650) but that includes a round trip Daytona to Michigan which 75% was interstate. If I stayed at or below the speed limit in cruise could get more than 22 or so, but back roads, acceleration, or speeds of 75 or more really cut into it. I have a 3.21 rear end so that helps as far as cruise/low rpm interstate running.

I test drove a 3.6 with the 3.21 and 8sp. I liked it well enough on the short ride. But in the end, the full dress yellow got me.

I run the 5.7 CC with 392 gear and retrax Tonneau cover and get about 19 to 21 with mostly open road driving below 70 MPH. I do not live in the city. At speeds over 70 I the average will drop to 17 to 19.

I had a 2011 5.7 QC Lararmie with 355 gear and a cover got the same mph maybe 22 to 23 on open road below 70 MPh not much difference at all.

If I'm going down hill foot off gas pedal and reset the MPH it gets 55 to 90 MPG!!!! LMAO
